Oklahoma's Buddy Hield named Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year

The Big 12 Conference announced its preseason awards on Thursday morning.

Oklahoma senior Buddy Hield was picked to repeat as Big 12 Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4 guard 17.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Sooners during the 2014-15 season.

Baylor's Rico Gathers, Kansas' Perry Ellis and Iowa State's Georges Niang, all first-team selections from a season ago, were also named to Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Texas junior point guard Isaiah Taylor rounded out the preseason starting five.

Iowa State guard Deonte Burton was voted Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year. The Marquette transfer is eligible to play for the Cyclones after the first semester.

Kansas forward Cheick Diallo was named the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year. However, he has yet to be cleared by the NCAA.
