BIXBY, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford apologized Friday one day after he was ejected from his son's basketball game for voicing displeasure with an official.
Ford's son, Brooks, plays for Stillwater High. According to the Tulsa World (http://bit.ly/1HYjPRQ), the official told Ford to leave during the third quarter of Stillwater's loss to Bartlesville in Bixby. Ford was seated with a group of Stillwater supporters a few rows behind the team's bench.
The official was speaking with Stillwater's coach when Ford said something and was asked to leave by the official.
Ford apologized after speaking with athletic director Mike Holder.
''We have consistent dialogue with our student-athletes about their representation of Oklahoma State University and Cowboy basketball,'' Ford said. ''The lesson is always that there are no days off from that responsibility. While people can debate whether my comments to a referee during a high school game involving my son warranted being asked to leave the building, as Mike Holder and I discussed this morning, there is no question I should have exercised better judgment in not publicly expressing my feelings. I regret the situation, and apologize for the unfortunate and unwanted distraction it has caused.''
