'Nova senior Redding can't play in fall semester
Reggie Redding won't play for Villanova in the fall.
That was the result of disciplinary proceedings in which the 6-foot-5 senior wing will remain enrolled in classes — but will not play in games or travel with the team.
"I am in support of the University's decision," Wildcats coach Jay Wright said in a statement. "I believe the process was respectful and fair to Reggie. He is a quality person, who, with the support of his great family, met this head on and has learned a valuable lesson from this experience."
Redding was arrested last month after police discovered a small amount of marijuana in his car.
This means that Redding, who averaged 7.1 points and 4.9 rebounds last season and is the veteran on a team expected to battle for the Big East title, won't be eligible to play until the fall semester ends on Dec. 18.
Redding will miss games at Penn (Nov. 16) and the entire Puerto Rico Tourney in which Villanova faces George Mason in the opener. He will also sit out home games against La Salle, Drexel, against Maryland in the BB&T Classic and on the road against St. Joe's and Temple.
Redding could return on Dec. 19 when Villanova faces Fordham.
