Devon Baker and Will Pratt came off the bench to score 19 and 17 points, respectively, to help Northwestern State pull away to an 87-78 victory over Houston Baptist on Monday night.

Louis Ellis also scored 17 for the Demons (1-1), who lost their opener to LSU.

Terry Bembry scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Huskies (0-2), who were beaten by Oklahoma State in their opener.

Northwestern State led by four, 39-35, with 6:13 to play in the first half before going on a 12-0 run over the next 3:46.

Baker also came up with five steals for the Demons, two of them during a 9-0 second-half run, spanning 1:24, after the Huskies had closed to within 56-50. Houston Baptist turned the ball over 30 times in the game to Northwestern State's 17.

The Demons overcame a poor night at the free-throw line, making just 12 of 25.
