Jim Nantz explains his weird, Final Four tie-gifting ritual

Jim Nantz enjoys giving out clothing.

It doesn't matter why—though he will explain to you why at length—but every year after the NCAA tournament the long-time CBS sportscaster undoes his collar and awards his tie to the senior who inspired him the most.

This year it was Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono, who shoveled the ball to Kris Jenkins for the Wildcats' national championship-winning buzzer beater against the Tarheels on Monday night.

Minutes after the confetti fell, Nantz peeled off his tie and offered it to Arcidiacono. KHOU-TV in Houston's Daniel Gotera posted video of the broadcaster explaining the gesture. Apparently, the Nantz-Tie Award is based on performance, scholarship and inspirational je ne sais quois.

"It's a personal Final Four tradition," Nantz said. "The tie symbolizes a lot to me...I just felt years ago I wanted to do something to honor a senior on the team that wins the title...to give them something to take home."

Yep. Nantz gives sweaty ties as mementos.

To his credit, Arcidiacono rocked it and called the tie an honor.

"I was just in awe," Arcidiacono said. "[Receiving the tie] was a great honor."

Now, a very necessary Vine from Barstool Sports' Dan Katz:

What are some other personal items would actually want to receive from a sports media professional?

I'm going with:

Also, Jim Nantz carries around a picture of burnt toast in his wallet. Never forget this.

Dan is on Twitter. At the end of every day, he gives his empty coffee mug to the tweeter who inspires him most.
