David Bruce scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench to lead Hampton in a 73-58 win over William & Mary on Saturday night.

The Pirates (1-0) scored 13 second-chance points, and outrebounded the Tribe 42-30.

Darrion Pellum led Hampton in scoring with 20 points, and Mike Tuitt chipped in 10. Orin O'Bryant tallied 10 rebounds for the Pirates, who have won six of their last seven games.

Bruce was 6 of 12 from the field as the Pirates shot 42.2 percent as a team (27 of 64).

The Pirates scored 25 points off 15 turnovers and had eight steals, helping them overcome an 11 of 21 performance from the free-throw line (52.4 percent).

Quinn McDowell led four William & Mary (0-2) players in double figures with 18 points. Marcus Thornton added 13 points, Julian Boatner 11 and Fred Heldring 10 for the Tribe.
