Former Baylor star Isaiah Austin cleared by doctors to return to basketball

One of the most heartwarming moments in recent NBA history played out during the 2014 draft, as former Baylor basketball player Isaiah Austin was drafted by the Association as a whole following the announcement of the 15th pick.

Just days before the draft, the 7-foot-1 Austin was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue in the body. Following the diagnosis, doctors told Austin he would be unable to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA, yet Adam Silver made sure that Austin felt like part of the basketball family.

More than two years later, there's a chance that Austin could join the NBA in a more official capacity.

On Wednesday, Austin announced doctors have cleared him to resume playing basketball.

In the latest episode of the "Thru The Lens" documentary series, Austin revealed that he was cleared four months ago and that he's been working to get back into game shape.

Austin has also been blind in his right eye since he was 16 years old after suffering a detached retina, an injury which required numerous surgeries. He averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks during his two seasons at Baylor.
