ESPN says the fourth annual Jimmy V Week brought in a record $1.2 million in donations to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Nick Valvano, the chief executive officer of The V Foundation and the late coach's brother, and George Bodenheimer, the president of ESPN and ABC Sports, made the announcement Thursday.
The money raised during the Dec. 1-7 drive was a 30-percent increase from 2009's $950,000. In the four years Jimmy V Week has been held $3.8 million has been raised.
The week began with Jim Valvano's 1993 ESPYs speech featuring the now-famous line, ''Don't give up. Don't ever give up.''
