Crook leads Seattle past Texas-Rio Grande Valley, 70-59

SEATTLE (AP) Jack Crook scored 16 points with 8-for-12 shooting and Emmanuel Chibuogwu added 13 more to lead Seattle past Texas-Rio Grande Valley 70-59 on Saturday night.

Manroop Clair contributed 12 points, Brendan Westendorf had 11 and William Powell 10 for Seattle (8-11, 2-3 Western Athletic Conference), which hit 51 percent of its 55 shots from the field to snap a two-game skid. Crook also had five assists.

The Redhawks took the lead for good with a 3-pointer from Clair that sparked a 6-2 spurt for a 32-27 advantage at the break.

Early in the second half, Seattle pulled away again with a 9-2 burst bookended with buckets from Crook to stretch the margin to 51-41 with 11:03 left and held off Rio Grande Valley (6-15, 2-4) down the stretch.

Dakota Slaughter and J.J. Thompson led the Vaqueros with 14 points each. Shaquille Hines added 13 and Antonio Green 11.
