Butler to honor Andrew Smith by wearing a patch on jerseys for remainder of the season

Saturday's home game against St. John's will be an emotional one for the Butler community, as players, coaches and fans continue to mourn the loss of Andrew Smith.

Smith, a member of the 2010 and 2011 Final Four teams, passed away at age 25 on Tuesday after a two-year battle with cancer.

The Bulldogs will honor the friend they called "Moose" by wearing a patch in his honor on their jerseys for the remainder of the season.

"Above all else, what made Andrew special was the way that he genuinely cared for others. Within his large frame was an even larger heart. He is, was, and always will be a Bulldog," read a joint statement from Butler President James Danko and Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier on Tuesday evening.
