Albany uses big 2nd half to hold off Vermont 75-71

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Evan Singletary scored 20 points - all after halftime - and Albany used a big second half to rally past Vermont 75-71 Saturday for the annual Big Purple Growl.
Albany has now won 17 straight home games, including 12 this season.
After trailing by 10 at halftime, Albany opened the second half on a 7-2 run to pull to 43-38 and used a 16-2 spurt for a 54-49 lead.
Cam Ward's 3-point play with 1:48 left gave Vermont a 71-70 lead but Singletary made two free throws as Albany retook the lead at 72-71. After Ward missed a long 3-pointer, Singletary hit two free throws with 45.3 seconds left to extend Albany's lead to 74-71.
Ward and Everett Duncan both missed 3-pointers on Vermont's next two possessions and Greig Stire hit 1 of 2 free throws for four-point lead.
Peter Hooley also scored 20 points for Albany (19-6, 8-2), which remains in second place in the America East Conference.
Duncan led Vermont (14-11, 6-4) with 23 points on five 3-pointers. Ward finished with 13 points.
