Sees role dwindle
Pedersen made just six appearances (three starts) during the 2022/23 Bundesliga.
Impact
Pedersen was an unused option more often than not to open the season, but saw occasional use as a rotational option. The defender wasn't able to maintain that role and fell entirely out of favor following a lengthy injury. The full-back could see much larger role moving forward following the retirement of Jonas Hector.

On bench against Augsburg
Pedersen (strain) was an unused substitute in Saturday's victory against FC Augsburg.
Impact
Pedersen was in Koln's match day squad Saturday for the first time since the World Cup after recovering from a muscular injury that he suffered in January. He should remain the backup option to Jonas Hector at left-back moving forward.

Back on grass
Pedersen (strain) began individual training Tuesday.
Impact
Pedersen made big steps in his road to recovery with participating in individual training for the first time since November. He figures to still be out until after international break, where he will need at minimum a full week of training with the team before he returns.

To begin rehabilitation
Pedersen (strain) will start rehabilitation from his muscular injury, the club announced.
Impact
Pedersen suffered from a serious muscular injury in January and has not been able to train since. However, he will now begin a rehab program in his road to recovery. The team are expecting the defender to make a return in April, but will likely return to the bench with Jonas Hector doing an exceptional job as left back for Koln.

Out long-term
Pedersen will be out long-term with a muscular injury, manager Steffen Baumgart told reporters.
Impact
Pedersen is expected to be out at least six weeks with a serious muscular injury. The defender saw a rotational role in the starting XI behind Jonas Hector during the first half of the Bundesliga, and will likely hold a similar role when he returns to fitness.

Three crosses
Pedersen had three crosses (zero accurate) and zero chances created in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to SC Freiburg.
Impact
Pedersen sent in three crosses while also adding volume behind the ball during Sunday's loss. The defender has moved into the starting XI with injuries to Jonas Hector and Timo Hubers. With Hector already withdrawing from the World Cup squad it's possible that Pedersen starts the final two matches before the Winter break.

Starting against Slovacko
Pedersen (ankle) is in the starting XI for Friday's clash with Slovacko.
Impact
Pedersen was a doubt for the match but appeared in the starting XI, alleviating fears that his ankle injury could be serious. Pedersen has been largely a rotational option, though with a hectic November schedule his availability as depth could be crucial for Koln.

Dealing with ankle injury
Pedersen is doubtful for Thursday's Europa Conference League clash against FC Slovacko due to an ankle issue, manager Steffen Baumgart announced Wednesday.
Impact
Pedersen has apparently been dealing with ankle problems for "a while" and they flared up this week making him a doubt against Slovacko. He has featured just three times in the Bundesliga this season, so his potential absence wouldn't affect the starting lineup much.

Transfers to Koln
Pedersen has signed a two-year contract with FC Koln after transferring from Birmingham City, the club announced Friday.
Impact
Pedersen has been a nailed-on starter in the Championship with Birmingham the last four seasons, and he tallied nine goals and seven assists mostly from left back/left wing back. The 27-year-old is also capable of playing in central defense, and he'll want to break into the starting XI at Koln on his return to Germany -- he spent two seasons (2016-18) with Union Berlin back when they were in the second division.
