Signs extension Bednarek has agreed to a new three-year contract with Southampton, according to the club.

Impact Bednarek has no intention of leaving the Saints anytime soon, with the defender having just extended his stay with the club for an additional three seasons. He has been a regular starter for the club going back to 2019, still holding that spot today after starting in the opening three matches of the season. That said, he is likely to remain in that role throughout the rest of his contract, still only 28.

Fastidious defensive performance Bednarek generated one tackle (zero won) and four clearances in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 82nd minute.

Impact Bednarek led Southampton's defensive effort with four clearances, but his effort proved inconsequential, as the Saints fell 1 - 0 to Nottingham Forest. After playing a key role over 45 appearances (42 starts) at the heart of the Southampton backline during their promotion form the Championship, Bednarek has started in each of Southampton's firs two matches of their return season to the Premier League.

Impact While Bednarek could be an option Thursday, it'd be surprising if he started after not training all week. Then again, he's started every match since January under Selles and that could be enough to keep him in the XI Thursday despite returning from a concussion.

Impact Bednarek apparently didn't break his ribs last weekend, as originally reported, and he's already back on the pitch for the international team. Clearly, it's a great sign for the center-back's availability coming out of the break and it seems like he may not have to miss any matches for Southampton, having started the last eight in league play.

Impact Bednarek left the match in the 34th minute after succumbing to broken ribs and it seems like he'll be out an extended period going forward. He's been a regular under Ruben Selles, but with he and Armel Bella-Kotchap being injury Saturday, Southampton's back line may look a bit different out of the break, as Mohammed Salisu was the only center-back option off the bench in that game against Tottenham.

Impact Bednarek doesn't figure to crack Villa's starting XI at a consistent rate unless needed, as he's behind both Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa on the depth chart. Of course, given the schedule, he should draw a start or two at some point in the near future. While he was a regular at Southampton the past few seasons, he suddenly lost his role earlier this campaign after a couple bad performances.
