GAME LOG

Mostly featuring off bench so far Fred has come off the bench in four consecutive Premier League matches heading into the September international break.
Impact Fred started and lasted less than an hour in each of United's disastrous first two games of the season, and he's been dropped from the XI ever since. He still seems to be the third option behind Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay in defensive midfield, but it seems like it will be tough for him to break back into the lineup anytime soon.

Brazil calls up new target man Pedro for friendlies

Brazil coach Tite has included Flamengo striker Pedro as a new attacking option for the team’s pre-World Cup friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia in September

Has quiet game in loss Fred created a chance in last weekend's 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Impact Fred tallied four goals and four assists from midfield in 28 Premier League appearances (24 starts), his most prolific campaign since he joined United in 2018. But the 29-year-old continues to be very inconsistent with his performances, and could be relegated to the bench next season if new manager Erik ten Hag decides to bring in a new midfielder.

Plays 19 minutes off bench Fred played 19 minutes off the bench in Monday's 3-0 win against Brentford.
Impact Fred got some minutes Monday after missing the last two weeks with a hip issue. While he started the seven contests prior to injury, he may not move into the starting XI for the final two matches, as both Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay are healthy, or at least that's what it seems like.
MAY 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Available against Brentford Fred (hip) is on the bench for Monday's match against Brentford.
Impact Fred likely only has a day of training in him, if that, so he's on the bench Monday. That said, even if healthy, he's not guaranteed to start over either Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic. Fred will hope to end the season healthy and draw another start or two before the campaign is over.

Still not available Fred (hip) hasn't been able to train and will miss Thursday's match against Chelsea, according to Ralf Rangnick. "He tried to train yesterday but after training I had a long conver...
Impact Fred will remain out with his hip flexor issue, marking his fourth-straight absence. It's not guaranteed he'll be ready for the weekend, which means Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are expected to continue in the midfield, the former still struggling with a bit of fitness.

Could play versus Chelsea Fred (hip) might be available for Thursday's clash with Chelsea. Manager Ralf Rangnick told reporters, " [With] Fred, we don't know. Hopefully, he will be an option for the game ag...
Impact Fred was already expected to miss out against Arsenal on Saturday but at least has a clearer picture for the club's next match. If he is restored to the starting XI, Fred figures to take on a defensive midfielder role, though that hasn't stopped him from recording one goal on three shots (two on target), one assist and six chances created in his last five appearances.
APRIL 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Set to miss next three matches Fred (hip) won't be an option for the club's next three contests. Manager Ralf Rangnick told reporters, "With the others, I don't see them coming back within the next couple of day...
Impact Fred had started seven straight matches before being forced off in the first half against Everton on Saturday. In those contests, the defensive midfielder recorded one goal on four shots (two on target), one assist and 12 interceptions. Without Fred on the pitch, Paul Pogba or Nemanja Matic should be in contention to step into the starting XI.
APRIL 15, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Injured in first half Fred was forced off in the first half of Saturday's match against Everton with a possible groin injury. After the match it was revealed it was a problem with his hip flexor.
Impact Already down a goal, Fred was taken off before the half for Paul Pogba, another injury for Man United's midfield with Scott McTominay out Saturday. Depending on the length of these injuries, it could be Pogba and Nemanja Matic in United's midfield going forward.
APRIL 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Scores once in draw Fred had one goal on one shot, two interceptions, two tackles, four fouls, sustained one foul and created two chances in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Saturday.
Impact Though Leicester City managed to score in the 63rd minute, Fred responded quickly, equalizing three minutes later. The midfielder is not typically a threat on goal, and having played inconsistently lately, it is unlikely he will make a large contribution offensively against Everton.
APRIL 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up assists in 3-2 win Fred assisted once, created three chances, made one tackle (one won), intercepted once, cleared twice and received one yellow card in the 3-2 win against Tottenham on Saturday.
Impact Fred had one of his more offensive-heavy performances during the win Saturday. He still provided subtle defensive support, but he was found joining the attack more often than not. The more offensive presence also tied his season-high in created chances (3). Fred doesn't provide a tremendous floor, but he possesses a great ceiling when he hits it. In his last five games, he is averaging, 0.6 shots, 1.0 created chances, 0.2 crosses, 1.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 0.6 clearances per 90 minutes in all competitions.

Martinelli named in Brazil World Cup squad for first time

Brazil coach Tite has called up uncapped Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli for the first time for the last two World Cup qualifying matches at the end of the month
MARCH 11, 2022 • Associated Press
Scores off bench in 4-2 win Fred scored once and took one shot (one on target) in the 4-2 win over Leeds on Sunday.
Impact Fred came off the bench at the perfect time, putting the Red Devils back in the lead minutes later. The midfielder is starting to truly shine for Manchester United after failing to make a drastic impact since his arrival seasons ago. Fred is known for his versatile box-to-box play and his capability of driving the ball up the pitch, which he is showing each and every game now. Whenever he starts, he is a worthwhile consideration. Over his last five appearances -- four starts --, he is averaging, 0.8 shots, 1.4 created chances, 2.8 tackles and 0.8 interceptions per 90 minutes in all competitions.
FEBRUARY 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Tuesday Fred (illness) will be in the starting XI for Tuesday's clash with Brighton.
Impact Fred will be back on the pitch for the first time since Jan. 22 versus West Ham United. In his previous five appearances (four starts), the midfielder has notched two assists, two shots (one on target) and 13 tackles (three won). Generally playing a more defensive role, Fred has managed to chip in offensively of late and could be a sneaky fantasy play as a result.
FEBRUARY 15, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Available against Brighton Fred (COVID-19) is back in training and available for Tuesday's match against Brighton, according to manager Ralf Rangnick.
Impact Fred will be an option again Tuesday and if fit, could find his way into the XI again after missing the last two league matches with COVID-19. Out of necessity, Paul Pogba has started every match since returning and that's probably not the best route for him to keeping adding those minutes following a long layoff because of injury.
FEBRUARY 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Remains in quarantine Fred (COVID-19) will not rejoin the squad against Southampton on Saturday.
Impact Fred will be out of action for his second straight outing after testing positive for COVID-19. Once cleared to play, the team could decide to hold the midfielder in reserve for a match or two before reinserting him into the starting XI. Still, with 17 starts in 18 domestic appearances this year, Fred has generated two goals on 10 shots (six on target), three assists and 50 tackles.
FEBRUARY 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Tests positive for COVID-19 Fred tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Tuesday's trip to Burnley.
Impact Fred was in line to start Tuesday having started each of the last three league matches and after coming off the bench in Cup play. His absence likely means a start for Nemanja Matic next to Scott McTominay, though the return of Paul Pogba could change some things, as well.
