Impact Upamecano had just returned to individual training as his return is not too far along, though it seems to be too early for Saturday. With Matthijs De Ligt (knee) out for the next month, the defender wont rush too quickly to come back as he will likely be put right back into the starting XI for Bayer Munich.

Ruled out indefinitely Upamecano has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury that will keep him out of action indefinitely, the club announced Wednesday.

Impact Upamecano's injury, combined with that of Matthijs De Ligt (knee), leaves the club very thin in terms of center-back options. If neither player is available against Mainz on Oct. 21, the club may have to shift Konrad Laimer into a more defensive role or move right-back Noussair Mazraoui into the middle of the backline. At this point, it's hard to imagine Upamecano will be ready to play versus Mainz and could be out even longer.
