Andreas Christensen - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Facing four-week absence Christensen is expected to miss four weeks of action through a left quad tear, DSports reports.

Impact Christensen is coming off a busy start to the season, having opened his assisting count in the most recent of his six league appearances in 2026/27. Unfortunately for the center-back, he picked up an injury during that last game and could be sidelined until late October or early November if his recovery goes as expected. Such issue will limit the Blaugranas' defensive options for various games while opening an opportunity for Gerard Martin to feature in a central spot.

Diagnosed with thigh strain Christensen has been diagnosed with a left thigh strain and will remain sidelined for the time being, according to the club.

Impact Christensen is set for a spell on the sidelines after tests confirmed the thigh injury that forced him out of Saturday's match against Sevilla. Barcelona have not provided a specific recovery timeline, leaving his availability following the international break uncertain. Gerard Martin replaced him in central defense against Sevilla and should remain among the options to cover his absence. Christensen has primarily served as a depth option in defense, limiting the impact of his absence on the regular starting XI.

Departs with thigh injury Christensen left Saturday's game against Sevilla due to a thigh injury, according to LaLiga beat reporter Jose Carrasco.

Impact Christensen left early in the second half with a muscular injury; while further tests are needed, the defender's reaction suggests a significant injury. Gerard Martin replaced him in central defense. Christensen is a depth piece on defense, however, so his absence shouldn't carry a much weight in most fantasy formats. He'll have roughly three weeks to recover during the international break, with Barca's next game coming at home against Getafe on Oct. 10.

Signs extension through 2028 Christensen signed a two-year contract extension with Barcelona, keeping him at the club through June 2028, the club announced.

Impact Christensen joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 and is now entering his fifth season as a Blaugrana, having made 98 official appearances across all competitions including 71 in La Liga and 15 in the Champions League. The 30-year-old Danish center-back has won three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups during his time at the club, establishing himself as a valuable squad member thanks to his tactical intelligence, experience and comfort in possession. His 2025-26 campaign was heavily disrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for almost six months, though he made his comeback in the final league fixture of the season away at Valencia in late May. Now fully recovered, Christensen is expected to bring his leadership and defensive quality back to the Barca backline for the coming seasons.

Bench option Christensen (knee) is on the bench for Wednesday's match against Alaves.

Impact Christensen was already cleared of his knee injury, and that has led to his inclusion Wednesday, with the defender earning a bench role. He has only appeared in 12 games (three starts) this campaign, so he should maintain the minor role for the final few games.

MAY 13 • ROTOWIRE

Knee injury cleared for Wednesday Christensen (knee) was medically cleared and included in the squad for Wednesday's clash against Alaves, the club announced.

Impact Christensen's clearance is a significant development after the partial ACL tear kept him sidelined for an extended period. The Danish center-back's inclusion in the matchday squad marks a major milestone in his recovery, and his availability gives coach Hansi Flick additional options at the back for the final stretch of the season. His future at the club remains uncertain heading into the summer, with Barcelona having offered him a reduced contract renewal ahead of the transfer window.

MAY 13 • ROTOWIRE

Out for Clasico Christensen (knee) was not included in the squad for Sunday's Clasico against Real Madrid, according to the club.

Impact Christensen's omission from the squad confirms that Barcelona opted against taking any risks with the Danish center-back despite him having returned to team training over the past 10 days. The partial ACL tear has required a careful management approach throughout his recovery, and the club ultimately decided the Clasico came too soon for him to feature. His future at the club also remains uncertain heading into the summer, with Barcelona having offered him a reduced contract renewal ahead of the transfer window.

Impact Christensen had been left out of the Osasuna squad despite returning to team training, with Barcelona taking a cautious approach given the nature of his partial ACL tear. The Danish center-back is racing against time to be ready for one of the biggest fixtures of the season, but the club will not take any unnecessary risks with his long-term health even if he manages to earn a place on the bench for the Clasico. His future at the club also remains uncertain, with Barcelona having offered him a reduced contract renewal ahead of the summer.

MAY 9 • ROTOWIRE

Remains out Saturday Christensen (knee) has been left out of the squad for Saturday's clash against Osasuna, remaining unavailable despite his return to team training earlier in the week, the club post...

Impact Christensen had only just returned to collective sessions following his partial ACL tear, and the club has decided not to rush him back for the Osasuna fixture given the limited time he has had to prepare. The Danish center-back has been a depth option for Barcelona this season and his absence has a limited impact on the starting lineup, with the club managing his return carefully as they push toward what could be a title-clinching weekend at El Sadar.

MAY 2 • ROTOWIRE

Remains doubtful for Osasuna clash Christensen (knee) is uncertain for Saturday's clash against Osasuna, according to coach Hansi Flick. "I'm not sure about Christensen."

Impact Christensen had returned to team training Wednesday following his partial ACL tear, making the uncertainty over his Osasuna involvement understandable given the limited time he has had back in full sessions. The Danish center-back had been a depth option for Barcelona this season before the injury struck, and the club will make a final call on his involvement after assessing how he responds to the remaining sessions before the weekend.

MAY 1 • ROTOWIRE

Back in group training Christensen (knee) returned to group training Wednesday and could be an option again in the near future, according to the club.

Impact Christensen's return to the training pitch is a positive development after suffering a partial ACL tear earlier in the season, with the defender now making tangible progress in his recovery. The news is particularly encouraging given that surgery was not required, allowing for a shorter rehabilitation window than a full ACL rupture would have demanded. The Danish center-back had been a depth option for the Blaugranas this season, starting just three matches before the injury struck. His reintegration into group training represents a significant step forward as Barcelona head into the final stretch of a crucial campaign.

Suffers partial ACL tear Christensen has been confirmed to have suffered a partial tear of his ACL, according to his club.

Impact Christensen is heading to the sidelines for a spell of recovery and a long absence, with the defender partially tearing his ACL. The good news for the time being is that it appears he won't need surgery, and hopefully be able to recover in three to six months instead of the potential nine months out he would face with surgery. That said, a return this season still isn't guaranteed, as it will depend on the defender's recovery. He has only started in three games this season and has been a minor player, so this is more of a loss of depth, likely ending his season.

Selected for bench Christensen (illness) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Celta Vigo.

Impact Christensen was back with the group this week, and that has led to him being an option Sunday, earning a spot on the bench. He has only started in three of his nine appearances this season and should remain in a depth role after his four-game absence.

NOVEMBER 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Training with group Christensen (illness) has been training with the group and could be an option for Sunday's game at Celta Vigo, according to SPORT.

Impact Christensen has been training with the group throughout the entire week. Even though he wasn't included in the squad to face Brugge, he might have a shot at being involved this weekend due to the team's lack of reliable options at center-back.

NOVEMBER 7, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Not with team Christensen (illness) is out for Sunday's match against Real Madrid.

Impact Christensen was expected to be an option Sunday after an illness, but is still not an option for the team, with the defender left off the team sheet completely. It is unknown if this is a tactical choice or still due to injury, but either way, he will be expected to hold a bench role once fit again.
