Zach Benson - NHL News & Rumors

Three-game point streak Benson set up two goals Thursday in a 5-4 overtime win over the Maple Leafs.

Impact Benson's point streak is now at a modest three games and four assists. He's coming off the best season of his career with 13 goals, 30 assists, 116 shots and a plus-27 rating, and he's already warming up this season. Benson, Jack Quinn and Noah Ostlund form the Sabres second line, one of the leagues buzzworthy young trios.

Sets up tying goal Benson logged an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Canadiens.

Impact Benson has helpers in consecutive contests and three assists over seven outings this year. The 21-year-old, who signed an seven-year extension in June, hasn't quite gotten off to the right start in 2026-27, but he continues to see top-six minutes and power-play time. He's added 12 shots on net, 12 hits, four PIM and four blocked shots. Fantasy managers can afford to be patient with a player who could still put together a breakout campaign.

Inks long-term extension Benson signed a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension with the Sabres on Wednesday.

Impact This deal keeps Benson with the Sabres as part of the team's core while on an affordable deal. He had 13 goals and 43 points over 65 regular-season outings in 2025-26. At just 21 years old, he still has time to grow on offense, though expectations will be higher moving forward with his new contract. Expect Benson to fill a top-six role regularly in 2026-27.
