Between the pipes Thursday Wedgewood will get the road start in Carolina on Thursday, Corey Masisak of The Denver Post reports.

Impact Wedgewood will make his second appearance, and first start, for the Avalanche since his trade from Nashville on Saturday. Wedgewood came on in relief of Alexandar Georgiev on Tuesday with the Avs trailing 4-0 in the first period and proceeded to stop all 22 shots, as Colorado back back to defeat Buffalo 5-4. Wedgewood has a serious opportunity to grab the top job from Georgiev and will get his first chance Thursday in Carolina. The Hurricanes are third in NHL scoring, averaging 3.72 goals.

Impact Wedgewood is in line to become the No. 1 goaltender in Colorado, replacing Alexandar Georgiev, as the Avalanche have been horrible between the pipes. Wedgewood was 1-2-1 with a 3.69 GAA and an .878 save percentage in limited action behind Juuse Saros. Wedgewood was 16-7-5 with a 2.85 GAA and an .899 save percentage with Dallas last season and the Avs are banking on that type of netminding to lead them this season.

Impact New Jersey out-shot Nashville 45-21 on the night, and the final result would have been even more lopsided has it not been for the two Predators goalies. Wedgewood hasn't gotten a start since Nov. 14, and through five appearances on the season he sports a shaky 3.69 GAA and .878 save percentage. Monday's strong effort in relief could earn him more playing time, and Wedgewood should start one of this weekend's contests, either Friday at home against Tampa Bay or Saturday in Minnesota.
