Vitek Vanecek - Not playing Thursday Vanecek (upper body) will not dress Thursday in St. Louis, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports.

Impact Yaroslav Askarov will make his San Jose debut Thursday, while Mackenzie Blackwood will be the backup. Vanecek is in danger of losing his spot on the roster if Askarov is able to excel at the NHL level. Vanecek is 2-5-1 with a 3.36 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 10 games this season.

William Eklund - Nabs shorthanded helper Eklund recorded a shorthanded assist in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Stars.

Impact The helper extended Eklund's point streak to five games (two goals, five assists). He also has two power-play points in that span, which has showcased his all-situations importance to the Sharks. The 22-year-old is up to four goals, 12 helpers, 33 shots on net and a minus-3 rating through 20 outings this season. Eklund will play heavy minutes as the Sharks continue their rebuild, but he should offer decent scoring contributions, and it looks like he won't be anywhere near the horrendous minus-45 rating he had in 2023-24.

Oskar Back - Posts assist in win Back logged an assist in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Sharks.

Impact Back has three points over his last four games. The 24-year-old has received a steady run of playing time in a stretch where Colin Blackwell and Mavrik Bourque have served as the healthy scratch. Back is likely to peak at the fourth line. He has four points, 10 shots on net, nine hits and a plus-1 rating through 13 appearances this season.

Impact Dumba has been back for nearly a month since he missed four games with a lower-body injury, and this was his first point over 10 outings in that span. He didn't get on the scoresheet in either of his first two appearances, and the lack of offense saw him spend two games as a healthy scratch last week. Dumba has added 20 hits, 17 PIM, 12 blocked shots, 12 shots on net and a plus-1 rating over 12 contests this season, playing mainly in a bottom-four role. He could have some safety for playing time if Nils Lundkvist (lower body) misses time after exiting early Wednesday.
