Quentin Musty - NHL News & Rumors

Placed on IR-NR Musty (upper body) was put on non-roster injured reserve Monday, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.

Impact It was relayed Sept. 17 that Musty will be out long term due to his upper-body injury, so his placement on IR-NR doesn't come as a surprise. The 21-year-old had a relatively solid first full season with AHL San Jose in 2025-26, accounting for 21 goals, 45 points and a minus-14 rating over 61 regular-season games. The left-shot winger will likely continue his development with the Barracuda once he moves past his injury.

Suffers upper-body injury Musty will be out long-term due to his upper-body injury, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports Thursday.

Impact Musty was always going to face an uphill battle to secure a spot on the Opening Night roster. This injury will further cement Musty as an AHL player this year, though he could get a chance to make his NHL debut once given the all-clear.

Four points in AHL win Musty scored twice and added two assists in AHL San Jose's 6-3 win over Colorado on Friday.

The winger is up to 19 goals, 39 points, 149 shots on net and a minus-7 rating through 54 appearances. His strong AHL rookie year is a positive, but Musty doesn't look likely to be called up while the Sharks are pushing for a playoff spot.

The 20-year-old winger has earned five of his helpers over the last three contests. Musty has added 21 shots on net so far this season, but he can tap into both higher volume and better efficiency as he continues to learn the ropes in the AHL. He likely projects as a middle-six winger in the NHL, especially with all of the talented prospects the Sharks have put together during their rebuild.

Makes jump from OHL to AHL The Sharks loaned Musty from OHL Sudbury to AHL San Jose on Monday.

Impact Musty will embark on his professional career after Sudbury was eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs against Kingston last week. The left-shot winger amassed 30 goals and 59 points over 33 appearances with the Wolves this season. The 2023 first-round selection (No. 26 overall) is only 19 years old, and considering the Sharks are far from being in win-now mode, Musty should be expected to be given plenty of time to develop with the Barracuda. However, with the potential of playing alongside a gifted center in Macklin Celebrini in the future, Musty is an intriguing player to keep tabs on going forward.

Offensive force in OHL Musty has been a standout performer with OHL Sudbury in 2024-25, recording 17 goals and 35 points in 22 outings.

Impact Musty missed about two months of the season due to injury, per Ben Leeson of the Sudbury Star, but he's been effective when healthy. Although missing a chunk of the campaign obviously isn't good for Musty's development, the 19-year-old could eventually turn into a solid top-six forward for the Sharks, who selected him with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Musty will likely get a long look during next season's training camp, though it wouldn't be surprising if San Jose ultimately decides at that time that he needs more seasoning rather than include him on the team's Opening Night roster.
