Filip Hallander - Collects first NHL helper Hallander logged an assist in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.
Impact Hallander's first NHL helper came on Harrison Brunicke's first goal at 5:41 of the second period. The 25-year-old Hallander spent the last two seasons in Sweden after a pair of campaigns in the AHL, but he's getting a look early in 2025-26. He'll likely be limited to bottom-six minutes and could rotate in and out of the lineup at times.

Justin Brazeau - Pots winner Thursday Brazeau scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Islanders.
Impact After tickling twine twice in Tuesday's season opener, Brazeau stayed locked in Thursday, taking a cross-ice feed from Evgeni Malkin late in the third period and beating Ilya Sorokin with a slick move to his backhand to snap a 3-3 tie. Brazeau managed just 11 goals and 22 points over 76 regular-season games split between the Bruins and Wild in his first full NHL campaign in 2024-25, but he's shown a remarkable knack for clutch play already -- he had the GWG in both Penguins victories to begin the current campaign, and six of his 19 NHL goals so far have been game-winners. The 27-year-old posted big offensive numbers in the OHL and ECHL earlier in his career and produced 18 goals and 37 points in 49 games for AHL Providence in 2023-24, and Brazeau could surprise if given the opportunity in Pittsburgh.

Rickard Rakell - Two points against Isles Rakell scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.
Impact The 32-year-old opened the scoring early in the first period, tucking home a backhand from the slot to finish off a scramble in front of Ilya Sorokin, and Rakell then helped set up a Sidney Crosby tally midway through the second. Rakell is coming off a career-best 2024-25 season that included nine goals and 19 points on the power play, and while Pittsburgh's overall roster may be shaky, skating on the top PP unit with Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang should allow him to maintain a strong fantasy floor.

Impact After helping to set up Rickard Rakell for a goal in the first period, Crosby tapped home his first tally of the season on a feed from Evgeni Malkin midway through the second. Crosby was held off the scoresheet in Pittsburgh's season opener Tuesday, but he's topped 90 points in each of the last three campaigns, and there's little reason to think the 38-year-old superstar will suddenly see his numbers fall off a cliff in 2025-26.

Impact After helping the Pens take advantage of man-advantage situations in the first and second periods, Malkin made his biggest impact on the game when he sprung Justin Brazeau for the game winner late in the third. There has been some suggestion 2025-26 will be Malkin's last season in the NHL, but the 39-year-old isn't playing like someone whose tank is nearly empty -- he's come flying out of the gates this season with five helpers in Pittsburgh's first two games.

Tristan Jarry - Hangs on for win over Isles Jarry stopped 34 shots in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.
Impact After two back-and-forth periods, Jarry shut the door in the third and got rewarded when Justin Brazeau potted the winner with a little over five minutes left in regulation. While it was a good start to the season for the 30-year-old netminder, his spot at the top of the depth chart may not be secure after Arturs Silovs shut out the Rangers on Tuesday in the Pens' season opener. Jarry's own declining numbers don't help his case to hang onto the No. 1 job -- he posted a career-worst 3.12 GAA and .892 save percentage over 36 appearances in 2024-25.
