Impact If Copley makes the Blue Jackets' Opening Night roster, it will likely be as the No. 3 netminder behind Cam Talbot and Jet Greaves. Columbus also has Elvis Merzlikins (shoulder), but there's no timetable for his return. Copley had a 2.59 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 33 regular-season appearances with AHL Ontario in 2025-26.

Impact When Elvis Merzlikins (shoulder) underwent surgery in August, it initially looked like Copley would enter the campaign as the Blue Jackets' No. 2 goaltender. However, Cam Talbot signed a one-year, $950,000 contract Sept. 15, and is now projected to serve as Jet Greaves' backup until Merzlikins is healthy. As a consequence, Copley is slated to open the upcoming campaign in the minors unless he's claimed on waivers.

Impact Copley logged just one NHL game for the Kings last season in which he gave up three goals on 28 shots in a loss to the Kraken on Dec. 23. Back in 2022-23, the 34-year-old Copley backstopped the Kings 37 times, going 24-6-3 with a 2.64 GAA, and could see a similar workload this season depending on the severity of Merzlikins' injury.

Inks one-year contract Copley signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

Impact Copley had a 2.59 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 33 regular-season outings with AHL Ontario in 2025-26. The 34-year-old netminder also has a 44-17-8 record, 2.85 GAA and .898 save percentage in 78 career regular-season NHL games. Copley is likely to start 2026-27 in the minors, but he should be summoned to the Blue Jackets if Jet Greaves or Elvis Merzlikins suffer an injury at any point during the campaign.

Impact Copley was recalled by the Kings earlier in the day and had an opportunity to practice with the NHL club, but his move back to the minors will allow him to continue appearing in games for the Reign.
