Impact With a rash of injuries to Ottawa's back end, Matinpalo will likely step into a bottom-pairing role for his NHL debut Saturday against the Penguins. The 25-year-old Matinpalo, who signed with Ottawa as an undrafted free agent, has a goal in four AHL games this season.

Impact With Erik Brannstrom (concussion), Thomas Chabot (hand) and Artem Zub (upper body) all sidelined, Kleven will likely step into a bottom-pairing role in Saturday's matchup with the Penguins. The 21-year-old Kleven offers some offensive upside from the blue line, earning a pair of assists in eight NHL outings last season.

Erik Brannstrom - Diagnosed with concussion Brannstrom sustained a concussion and will be returning to Ottawa on Friday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.
Impact Brannstrom won't be available to face the Penguins on Saturday but it could certainly be longer as he recovers from his concussion. The fact that he was immediately able to travel home could be an indication it won't be a long-term absence. Still, any missing blueliner is a problem for the team right now with both Thomas Chabot (hand) and Artem Zub (upper body) also shelved.

Thomas Chabot - Suffers fractured hand Chabot will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a fractured hand, per TSN 1200 Ottawa on Friday.
Impact Chabot is just the latest blueliner to suffer an injury this season with both Artem Zub (upper body) and Erik Brannstrom (concussion) unavailable as well. While Jakob Chychrun has seen the bulk of the minutes with the No. 1 power-play unit, Chabot was still averaging 3:14 of ice time per game with the man advantage. The club will need to add some minor-league options to the roster ahead of Saturday's clash with Pittsburgh, possibly Dillon Heatherington and/or Lassi Thomson.

Jakob Chychrun - Adds fourth goal Chychrun scored a goal on a team-high nine shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders.
Impact Chychrun did his best to spur the Senators' offense Thursday, logging nine shots in a team-high 28:12 of action, including 5:24 on the power play. He tied the game 2-2 in the second period, firing a wrister through traffic that snuck by Ilya Sorokin. The 25-year-old Chychrun now has goals in back-to-back games and is up to seven points (four goals, three assists) through seven games to start his first full season with Ottawa.

Joonas Korpisalo - Falls to Islanders Korpisalo allowed three goals on 38 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Islanders on Thursday.
Impact Korpisalo was back between the pipes Thursday after entering in relief of Anton Forsberg on Tuesday against Buffalo. The 29-year-old Korpisalo was solid, holding the Islanders to three goals on 38 shots, but Noah Dobson's tally in the third period was enough to stick Korpi with the one-goal loss. Korpisalo is now 1-3-0 with an .886 save percentage through his first five games as Ottawa's No. 1 netminder. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start which is likely to come Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Impact The hit occurred in the second period. Per the team, Brannstrom was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. At this time it's unclear if he'll be cleared to travel with the Senators on their trip to Pittsburgh for Saturday's matchup with the Penguins.

Impact Korpisalo has struggled out of the gate, recording a 1-2-0 record, 3.64 GAA and .872 save percentage through four contests. That's a steep decline compared to his 18-14-4 record, 2.87 GAA and .914 save percentage in 39 games between Columbus and LA last year. The Islanders rank 24th offensively with an average of 2.60 goals per game, so perhaps Korpisalo will fare better against them.
