Poised to miss Round 2 of playoffs
Ostlund (lower body) isn't expected to be available to play in the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on Sunday.
Impact
Ostlund sustained the injury in the first period of Game 5 against Boston on Tuesday. He had one goal, one assist, four shots on net and one blocked shot in three appearances during Buffalo's first-round series win over the Bruins. It remains unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup.

Set for extended absence
Ostlund (lower body) is expected to miss some time after being hurt in Game 5 against the Bruins on Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Impact
Ostlund was just in his third game back from a 12-game absence due to an upper-body injury and now suddenly finds himself shelved once again. At this point, it seems like the 22-year-old center might be a long shot to play in the second round, assuming the Sabres advance, though a specific timeline hasn't been provided.

Status deemed not good
Ostlund's lower-body injury reportedly doesn't look good according to head coach Lindy Ruff, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports Tuesday.
Impact
Ostlund was hurt in a first-period collision in Tuesday's Game 5. With that update, it seems unlikely that he'll play in Game 6 on Friday. Josh Dunne and Tanner Pearson are the healthy extras up front for the Sabres, but Josh Norris (undisclosed) could be an option as well if he gets healthy in time to play Friday.

Exits Game 5
Ostlund sustained a lower-body injury in the first period of Game 5 versus the Bruins on Tuesday and will not return.
Impact
Ostlund appeared to be favoring his left leg after a collision with Casey Mittelstadt. The 22-year-old Ostlund attempted to skate it off during a TV timeout, but he was unable to stay in the game. The silver lining is that this injury isn't related to the upper-body injury that recently cost him 12 contests before he made his playoff debut in Game 3 of this series. He'll be day-to-day until the Sabres provide additional information.

Two points in Game 3 return
Ostlund scored a goal and added an assist Thursday during the Sabres' 3-1 win over the Bruins in Game 3 of their first-round series.
Impact
The rookie center had a hand in a Bowen Byram tally that got Buffalo on the board midway through the second period, before Ostlund hustled for an empty-netter late in the third. Ostlund had been sidelined since March 25 due to an upper-body injury, missing the Sabres' last 12 games, but he made an immediate impact in his return after producing 11 goals and 27 points in 60 regular-season contests.

Set to return for Game 3
Ostlund (upper body) will return to action for Thursday's Game 3 against Boston, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Impact
Ostlund missed the Sabres' final 10 regular-season games and first two postseason matchups, but he was trending in the right direction recently and will officially get the green light to return to action Thursday. Josh Norris (undisclosed) will be unavailable Thursday, so Ostlund centered the third line during morning skate and was part of the second power-play unit. Across 60 regular-season appearances this year, Ostlund recorded 11 goals, 16 assists, 30 blocked shots and 14 PIM while averaging 13:58 of ice time.
