Signs one-year contract with Buffalo Grzelcyk signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Sabres on Friday.

Impact Grzelcyk missed the end of the 2025-26 regular season due to an upper-body injury, and he became an unrestricted free agent during the offseason. He should be healthy ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and will land a contract with the Sabres just under a week before the team's Opening Night matchup against the Blue Jackets on Thursday. The 32-year-old blueliner recorded no goals, 12 assists, 54 blocked shots, 32 PIM and 28 hits while averaging 16:58 of ice time across 69 regular-season appearances with the Blackhawks last year.

Set to miss some time Grzelcyk (upper body) will not be available for the Blackhawks' upcoming four-game road trip, and his status beyond that has yet to be determined, according to Ben Pope of the Chic...

Impact Grzelcyk sustained his upper-body injury during the first period of Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to Nashville. The 32-year-old blueliner has played in all but one of the Blackhawks' games this season, but he'll now miss at least the next four, with the potential for a longer absence. Ethan Del Mastro will most likely get back into the lineup Tuesday against the Islanders.

Won't return Sunday Grzelcyk (upper body) left Sunday's game against the Predators in the third period and won't return, the team announced.

Impact Under a minute into the third period, Grzelcyk got caught up high in a scrum after the whistle and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. The 32-year-old has no goals and 12 assists on the season in 68 games in his first season in a Blackhawks sweater. It remains to be seen if he will be forced to miss any more time. Chicago is next in action on Tuesday on the road at the Islanders.

Quiet on offense Grzelcyk's point drought reached eight games in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.

Impact Grzelcyk has just one assist over his last 20 outings. The 32-year-old blueliner is still maintaining a third-pairing role, but he could lose that spot to Ethan Del Mastro if the Blackhawks fully embrace playing their prospects. For the season, Grzelcyk has 12 helpers, 64 shots on net, 51 blocked shots, 26 hits, 28 PIM and a minus-8 rating over 64 appearances.

Pair of assists in Wednesday's win Grzelcyk notched two assists and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blues.

Impact Grzelcyk has chipped in with six assists and a minus-2 rating over his last 14 appearances. The 32-year-old defenseman's effort Wednesday was his first multi-point effort of the campaign. He's now at 10 assists, 49 shots on net, 21 hits, 33 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a plus-3 rating through 43 appearances. Grzelcyk is seeing time on the second power-play unit but still has a fairly limited role at even strength.

Snaps slump with helper Grzelcyk registered an assist and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Rangers.

Impact Grzelcyk had gone 13 games without a point entering Wednesday. The 31-year-old defenseman has largely disappointed to begin his Chicago tenure, earning a mere five assists in 30 contests just one year after his 40-point effort in 82 games for the Penguins. However, Grzelcyk could claim some extra time on the second power-play unit while Sam Rinzel is with AHL Rockford.

DECEMBER 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Quiet on offense Grzelcyk's point drought reached 10 games in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Golden Knights.

Impact Grzelcyk was involved in a goal, but it was a Vegas tally that bounced in off of his body. The 31-year-old defenseman has been a steady part of the Blackhawks' lineup, which has often included seven blueliners, but he's been on the third pairing with inconsistent power-play usage. That hasn't been a recipe for success, as he's now at four assists, a plus-9 rating, 31 shots on net, 22 blocked shots, 12 hits and 12 PIM through 26 outings overall.

Snags helper in win Grzelcyk registered an assist and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Blues.

Impact Grzelcyk got on the scoresheet for the first time as a Blackhawk when he set up a Lukas Reichel goal in the first period. The 31-year-old Grzelcyk has filled a bottom-four role with some power-play time, and his ice time has been further trimmed by the Blackhawks often opting to dress seven blueliners. He's added six blocked shots, five shots on net and a plus-4 rating, so he should continue to be an effective veteran role player this year. However, he'll likely be a few levels below the performance that saw him earn 40 points in 82 games with the Penguins last year.
