Utah Mammoth ready to take next big step after franchise's first playoff run

The foundation for the Mammoth's first playoff appearance was set before the team moved to Utah from the desert

One of each Friday Weegar scored a goal, dished an assist, added two PIM and doled out four hits in Friday's 4-2 win over the Golden Knights in Game 3.

Impact Weegar opened the scoring in the first period and added a helper on the first of Lawson Crouse's two tallies in the second. With three points, five shots on net, eight hits and four blocked shots over three playoff contests, Weegar is taking care of business in a top-four role. He'll continue to offer good category coverage for those who want to add him to their DFS rosters this postseason.

Impact Weegar was credited with the Mammoth's first goal, which was ruled an own goal by the Golden Knights. Impact Weegar had three helpers over the last three games of the regular season. The 32-year-old defenseman has seen steady top-four minutes since he was traded to the Mammoth from the Flames, but his scoring production has been roughly equal on a per-game basis. He finished the season with four goals, 28 points, 154 shots on net, 167 hits, 175 blocked shots, 88 PIM and a minus-33 rating over 79 appearances. Weegar will look to be a strong shutdown blueliner as he faces former Calgary teammate Rasmus Andersson and the Golden Knights in the first round of the playoffs.

Impact Weegar was able to get on the scoresheet in his first game back in Calgary since he was dealt to Utah. The defenseman missed a game due to an upper-body injury earlier in April, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he got rested for one or both of the Mammoth's last two contests before the playoffs. In 77 outings between the Flames and the Mammoth this season, he has four goals, 22 helpers, 153 shots on net, 166 hits, 173 blocked shots, 84 PIM and a minus-32 rating.
