Islanders face the Kings in a non-conference matchup

The New York Islanders and the Los Angeles Kings meet in an out-of-conference matchup

Dawson Mercer - Leads comeback with three points Mercer scored two goals, including the overtime winner, and added an assist in Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Kings.
Impact With the Devils down 2-0 and time ticking away in the second period, Mercer set up Tomas Tatar for the team's first tally to begin the comeback before potting goals of his own early in the third and exactly halfway into the extra frame. Mercer extended his goal streak to five games with the performance, a stretch in which the 21-year-old has found the back of the net seven times with nine points in total. The 18th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft needs to light the lamp twice more this season to reach 20 goals for the first time.

Pheonix Copley - Downed by Devils in OT Copley stopped 28 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Impact It looked like Copley was headed for his 18th win of the season when Sean Durzi scored late in the third period, but Nico Hischier tipped in the tying goal with 39 seconds left in regulation before Dawson Mercer won it for New Jersey in OT. Copley is 9-3-2 since the beginning of January, but his 2.82 GAA and .901 save percentage over that stretch indicate his success has mainly been the product of timely offense by the Kings.

Anze Kopitar - Two points in OT loss Kopitar scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Impact The veteran center opened the scoring midway through the first period before setting up Sean Durzi late in the third. Kopitar extended his point streak to four games with the performance, but he's been on fire longer than that -- the 35-year-old has seven multi-point efforts in the last 12 contests, racking up eight goals and 18 points during that time.

Kevin Fiala - Two helpers in Thursday's loss Fiala notched two assists in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Impact The 26-year-old has been locked in ever since the calendar flipped to 2023. Over 19 games since the beginning of January, Fiala has nine multi-point performances and has compiled 11 goals and 26 points. Barring an injury or a major slump down the stretch, he appears headed for his second straight 30-goal, 80-point campaign.

Sean Durzi - Two-point effort Thursday Durzi scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Impact The second-year defenseman extended his point streak to five games with a first-period helper, then nearly gave the Kings a win in regulation by snapping home a one-timer inside the final five minutes of the third to give his team a 3-2 lead. Durzi has already set new career highs in goals (seven) and points (32), and he's solidifying his spot as Drew Doughty's heir apparent on the LA blue line.
