Poised to start in Game 2 Thompson is expected to start in goal at home versus the Hurricanes in Game 2 on Thursday.

Impact Charlie Lindgren (personal) is away from the team for Thursday's contest, and Mitchell Gibson will serve as backup. That logically leaves Thompson as the starting goalie, which is expected since he's started all six games in the postseason so far. He played well with a 31-save effort in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 1 on Tuesday, and he'll be looking to even the series in Game 2.

Impact Thompson was the best player on the ice by a long shot. The Caps were outshot 33-14, and he had an absolutely monster game. The Caps shouldn't have even been in the game, but Thompson made sure they were. If anyone doubted this guy's star caliber, they can't anymore. He's 4-2-0 with a 2.17 GAA and .926 save percentage in six games this postseason.

Bounces back after injury scare Thompson stopped 16 of 18 shots in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Canadiens in Game 4.

Impact Thompson left Friday's Game 3 with an apparent lower-body injury, but he was able to avoid missing additional time. The Capitals put in a better effort Sunday, limiting the shots Thompson saw, and he let in only two power-play tallies to Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield. This win extended the Capitals' series lead to 3-1, and Thompson has allowed 10 goals on 114 shots over those four contests.
