Kevin Lankinen - Page 6 - NHL News & Rumors

Strong in close contest Lankinen made 38 saves in a 2-1 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday.

Impact He wobbled in the first, allowing two goals in 15 seconds, but shook that off and was perfect from that point forward. Lankinen last won Dec. 29 in Seattle. He's in the starter's seat with Thatcher Demko (lower body) on injured reserve. Lankinen is a tough activation with the team's 0-6-2 run over their last eight games. He has it in him, though -- those 25 wins last season were real.

Starting Tuesday Lankinen will guard the road goal versus the Senators on Tuesday, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports.

Impact Lankinen will handle the second half of a back-to-back after Nikita Tolopilo played Monday in a 6-3 loss to the Canadiens. Lankinen is winless in his last three outings, allowing nine goals on 64 shots in that span, which makes him a risky fantasy option for Tuesday's schedule.

Appears in relief Lankinen made 16 saves in a 5-0 loss to Toronto on Saturday. He allowed two goals.

Impact He replaced starter Thatcher Demko, who left with after one period with a lower body injury. Lankinen becomes the de facto starter until Demko returns. His 6-11-4 record, 3.40 GAA and .883 save percentage are a far cry from his brilliant last season where he went 25-25-10 with four shutouts, 2.62 GAA and .902 save percentage in 49 starts. Lankinen is an apply with caution fantasy netminder because of the Orcas rebuild vision.

Gets little help against Wings Lankinen turned aside 20 of 24 shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Red Wings, with Detroit's fifth goal getting scored into an empty net.

Impact The veteran netminder didn't get much help on the night, but he also did himself no favors on the opening goal of the game, which came on a wobbly shot by Patrick Kane from the faceoff circle that Lankinen simply whiffed on. Lankinen continues to get regular work as the backup to Thatcher Demko, but since the beginning of December he's gone 2-4-1 in seven starts with a 3.23 GAA and .884 save percentage.

Drawing start against Detroit Lankinen will defend the road crease against Detroit on Thursday, Olivia McDonald of Canucks Insider reports.

Impact Lankinen has seen limited playing time over the past few weeks, but he'll draw the start for the fourth time in the Canucks' last 13 games during Thursday's matchup. Across his last three starts -- all of which have gone to overtime -- he's gone 2-0-1 with a 2.77 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Takes overtime loss Lankinen allowed three goals on 21 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Bruins.

Impact Lankinen didn't see as much rubber as Jeremy Swayman in this contest. When it mattered most, Lankinen fell short, making a sloppy save on David Pastrnak's shot late in overtime before Fraser Minten knocked home the loose puck. Lankinen had won his previous two outings, but he was on a six-game slide prior to that. The Finnish netminder has a 6-10-4 record with a 3.37 GAA and an .884 save percentage through 20 contests this season. Thatcher Demko remains in the No. 1 role and will likely start the Canucks' next game Tuesday in Buffalo to kick off their six-game road trip.

Between pipes against Boston Lankinen will tend the twine at home versus the Bruins on Saturday, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.

Impact Lankinen has played in just two of the Canucks' last nine contests, posting a 2-0-0 record and 2.77 GAA. Both of those appearances, and Saturday's upcoming outing, have come in back-to-backs, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see Lankinen stealing starts away from Thatcher Demko.

Earns another shootout win Lankinen stopped 37 of 39 shots in Monday's 3-2 shootout win over the Kraken.

Impact This was Lankinen's second shootout win in a row since he snapped a six-game losing streak. He's allowed six goals on 82 shots over his last two outings, as the Canucks' defense isn't making life any easier for him. The Finnish netminder is now 6-10-3 with a 3.41 GAA and an .885 save percentage over 19 appearances this season. Thatcher Demko is likely to start Tuesday versus the Flyers, but Lankinen should get one of the two games after that, either Friday in a home rematch versus the Kraken or Saturday against the Bruins.

Will start Monday Lankinen will start Monday's game at the Kraken, Ben Kuzma of Postmedia reports Sunday.

Impact Lankinen will make just his second start in eight games Monday night against the Kraken. The 30-year-old has taken a backseat to Thatcher Demko while he has been playing at a high level, but it will be Lankinen who will start the second game out of the holiday break. He carries a 5-10-3 record, 3.51 GAA and an .880 save percentage into the matchup with Seattle, who will be on the second of a back-to-back.

Keeps team in it in shootout win Lankinen stopped 38 of 42 shots in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Bruins.

Impact Lankinen was kept busy in this contest, but he was up to the challenge, doing enough to allow the Canucks to stay close. The 30-year-old then turned aside seven straight shootout attempts to pick up the win. Lankinen had gone 0-5-1 over his previous six outings, and this was his first victory since Nov. 16 versus the Lightning. The Finnish netminder is now 5-10-3 with a 3.51 GAA and an .880 save percentage over 18 appearances. Thatcher Demko is still likely to see a majority of the starts in goal moving forward. The Canucks' next game is Monday in Philadelphia.
