In action versus Stars Toews (undisclosed) will be in the lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Stars, Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Impact Toews will not only be making his Winnipeg debut, but he will be playing in an NHL game for the first time since 2022-23, when he was with the Blackhawks. In that final season, the 27-year-old center notched 15 goals and 16 helpers in 53 regular-season tilts, including 12 power-play points. If he can produce at that level in 2025-26, his one-year deal with the Jets will be considered a success.

Set for stint on IR Toews (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday, per PuckPedia.
Impact Head coach Scott Arniel deemed Toews day-to-day Thursday, but it's currently unclear if the severity of the 37-year-old's injury has worsened over the last several days due to his placement on IR. The Manitoba native "tweaked something" in preseason action last week. Considering the Jets have a deep forward group, the organization will probably be extremely cautious with Toews' recovery, especially since he hasn't played in the NHL since 2022-23. Vladislav Namestnikov will center the second line as long as Toews is unavailable.

Impact Toews seems unlikely to suit up in Friday's preseason finale against the Flames, and instead should be expected to focus on being 100 percent ahead of Opening Night against the Stars on Oct. 9. Barring any setbacks, the veteran center should slide into the No. 2 center role for the Jets, at least until Adam Lowry (hip) is cleared to return. At that point, Toews could be shifted to the wing while remaining in a top-six role.
