Joe Veleno - Playing, not producing offense
Veleno was held off the scoresheet for the 13th game in a row in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Impact Veleno has been scratched four times in that span, but he's playing more often than not. When he suits up, he usually fills a fourth-line role, which won't make it easy for him to generate offense. The 24-year-old is at two points, 20 shots on net, 37 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 25 outings this season, a drastic drop-off compared to the career-high 28 points he amassed in 2023-24. Veleno is also averaging a career-low 11:01 of ice time in 2024-25.

Ben Chiarot - Nets lone goal in loss
Chiarot scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Impact Chiarot has a goal and an assist over his last two contests, marking the first time he's been on the scoresheet in consecutive games this season. The 33-year-old blueliner continues to fill a shutdown role in the top four. He's produced five points, 34 shots on net, 39 PIM, 45 hits and 62 blocked shots over 29 outings, though that also comes with a minus-11 rating indicative of heavy usage on a weaker team.

Erik Johnson - Waiting for opportunity again
Johnson was scratched for the 10th game in a row when he sat out Thursday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Impact This is Johnson's longest stretch in the press box. He played regularly when Cam York and Jamie Drysdale were both hurt, but they're now healthy. Head coach John Tortorella is also giving long looks to Emil Andrae and Egor Zamula, which has left no room for Johnson to check into the lineup. The 36-year-old has two points, five shots on net, nine PIM, 10 blocked shots and 23 hits over 15 outings.

Garnet Hathaway - Sets up empty-netter
Hathaway produced an assist, two shots on goal, three hits and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Impact Hathaway helped out on the Flyers' second empty-netter, which was Scott Laughton's fourth goal of the game. Hathaway has two points over five contests in December, though that's about as good as his scoring pace ever gets.
