Sabres sign defenseman Louis Crevier to a four-year, $16 million contract extension

The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Louis Crevier to a four-year contract extension worth $16 million

1 HOUR AGO • Associated Press

Called up from minors Gilbert was recalled from AHL Rochester on Thursday.

Impact Gilbert's promotion comes as Olen Zellweger (concussion) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Whether the 29-year-old Gilbert suits up in the season opener against Columbus on Thursday will likely depend on the availability of another defenseman, Matthias Samuelsson (lower body).

Placed on waivers Gilbert was put on waivers by Buffalo on Friday.

Impact Gilbert had 13 assists and 33 PIM in 37 regular-season AHL outings between Lehigh Valley and Belleville in 2025-26. He also recorded an assist in eight regular-season appearances with Ottawa last campaign. Gilbert shifted to Buffalo's organization by inking a one-year, $850,000 contract over the summer. Despite getting a one-way deal, it seems he probably won't be part of the Sabres' Opening Night roster.

Gets one-way contract Gilbert signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Sabres on Wednesday, per Darren Dreger of TSN.

Impact Gilbert managed to secure a one-way deal, which might indicate that Buffalo plans to start 2026-27 with him on the NHL roster. However, the 29-year-old is likely to serve as the seventh defenseman and spend most games as a healthy scratch if he does make the team. Gilbert had an assist in eight regular-season outings with Ottawa in 2025-26. He also recorded 13 assists in 37 regular-season appearances between AHL Belleville and Lehigh Valley last season.

Returning to lineup Gilbert (upper body) is set to suit up Sunday in New Jersey.

Impact Gilbert progressed well in his recovery, as it was announced March 26 that he would be sidelined for approximately three weeks. The Buffalo native missed 11 games due to his upper-body injury. Gilbert will skate in a second-pairing role alongside Nikolas Matinpalo on Sunday, as Jake Sanderson (rest) isn't playing in New Jersey.

APRIL 12 • ROTOWIRE

Slated to miss several weeks The Senators announced Thursday that Gilbert (upper body) will miss approximately three weeks, Julian McKenzie of The Athletic reports.

Impact Gilbert suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's game against Toronto and was expected to miss time. He's officially facing a multi-week return timetable that could force him to miss the remainder of the regular season, but it seems possible that he could be back in action for a potential playoff run.

Suffers injury Saturday Gilbert (upper body) left Saturday's game against Toronto and didn't return, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

Impact Gilbert had two blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-1 rating across 11:17 of ice time in Saturday's contest. He has appeared in six NHL outings this season while earning one assist. If Gilbert can't play against the Rangers on Monday, Lassi Thomson could enter the lineup.

MARCH 22 • ROTOWIRE

First point of season Gilbert notched an assist and three blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Islanders.

Impact Gilbert has played in four straight games since the Senators are missing Jake Sanderson (upper body) and Nick Jensen (knee). Gilbert isn't getting a lot of ice time -- he was under 10 minutes of ice time for the second contest in a row Thursday. Through five NHL outings this year, the 29-year-old has two shots on net, five hits and 10 blocked shots, so he'll mostly contribute in the physical categories.

Elevated from minors Gilbert was recalled from AHL Belleville on Monday.

Impact Gilbert's promotion to the NHL roster doesn't bode well for the availability of Jake Sanderson (upper body) for Monday's clash with Vancouver, especially with Nikolas Matinpalo (undisclosed) recovering from an injury of his own. If Gilbert does suit up Monday, it would be just his second NHL game of the year, having logged 13:50 of ice time against the Rangers on Dec. 4.

MARCH 9 • ROTOWIRE

Dropped to minors Gilbert was assigned to AHL Belleville on Sunday.

Impact Gilbert was a healthy scratch in Saturday's 7-5 loss to Toronto. He has six assists in 13 AHL games between Belleville and Lehigh Valley this season.

Recalled from AHL Gilbert was called up from AHL Belleville on Saturday.

Impact The Senators may need an extra defenseman Saturday, depending on Tyler Kleven (lower body), who has missed the last two games and is considered day-to-day. Gilbert has played only one game at the NHL level this season, and has been a healthy scratch on 11 occasions heading into action Saturday.

DECEMBER 27, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Reassigned to AHL Gilbert was loaned to AHL Belleville on Friday.

Impact Gilbert was recalled Nov. 29 when Thomas Chabot went on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Chabot is likely to return to action this weekend, making Gilbert redundant at this time. Gilbert played only once during his nine-game recall, going minus-1 with one blocked shot in 13:50 of action.

Impact Gilbert spent part of the 2024-25 campaign with the Senators, logging four regular-season games for the Sens in which he notched one assist, 11 hits and four shots. Even with the move to a new organization, the 29-year-old blueliner will likely start in the minors with AHL Belleville.

Loaned to AHL affiliate Gilbert was assigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

Impact In a corresponding move, the Flyers recalled Emil Andrae from the minors. Gilbert was a healthy scratch for the first two games of the campaign. He had six assists, nine shots on net, 36 blocked shots and 63 hits across 29 regular-season appearances between Buffalo and Ottawa in 2024-25.

Placed on waivers Gilbert was put on waivers by Philadelphia on Saturday, according to PuckPedia.

Impact Gilbert had six assists, 50 PIM, 63 hits and 36 blocks across 29 regular-season appearances with Buffalo and Ottawa in 2024-25. It's possible the 28-year-old will be claimed off waivers by a team, but even in that scenario, Gilbert is unlikely to serve as more than a third-pairing option who also spends some time as a healthy scratch. If Gilbert clears waivers, he'll report to AHL Lehigh Valley.

The left-shot defenseman is unlikely to receive anything more than third-pairing minutes with his new team, and he could serve as a periodic healthy scratch in 2025-26.
