Out with broken hand Reinbacher suffered a broken metacarpal bone and will be out for four weeks, the Habs announced Friday.

Impact Reinbacher missed much of the 2024-25 campaign with a knee injury and now once again finds himself on the shelf for at least four weeks. It was unlikely that the 20-year-old blueliner was going to make the Opening Night roster to begin with, but this injury all but guarantees he will start the year in the minors with AHL Laval.

Undergoing evaluation Reinbacher is being evaluated for an undisclosed injury sustained in Thursday's preseason game versus the Maple Leafs, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

Impact Reinbacher left the game in the third period, and the Canadiens didn't have a specific update in postgame comments. The 20-year-old defenseman was already a long shot to make the NHL roster, and missing time in preseason won't help his cause. Expect him to be assigned to AHL Laval once healthy.

Off non-roster IR, sent to minors Reinbacher (knee) has been taken off non-roster injured reserve and reassigned to AHL Laval on Wednesday.

Impact Reinbacher hasn't played in 2024-25 because of the injury. The 20-year-old defenseman got his first taste of North American pro hockey last campaign, scoring two goals and five points in 11 regular-season outings with Laval. Montreal selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Although he has tremendous upside, Reinbacher will probably spend all of what remains of 2024-25 in the minors after missing so much development time while recovering from surgery on his left knee in October.
