Johnny Gaudreau - Benched in third period Gaudreau was benched for the final 16 minutes of the third period in Saturday's loss to the Capitals, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Impact "We know Johnny can make a difference when he's skating and when he's involved, and tonight I felt he wasn't there," coach Pascal Vincent said after the game. "We're going to play the guys who are playing. It doesn't matter who you are. It's about the Blue Jackets, and I didn't like his game." Gaudreau had scored his first goal of the season just one game before, but he made little impact Saturday in a 2-1 loss, failing to record a shot on goal with a minus-1 rating in 11:55 of ice time. The 30-year-old did miss practice Friday to attend to a personal matter, and it's not clear if off-ice concerns may have affected his focus and compete level Saturday -- nor if Vincent intends to send a further message to his team's highest-paid player by making Gaudreau a healthy scratch Monday against the Panthers.

David Jiricek - Collects helper in loss Jiricek picked up an assist in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Capitals.
Impact The 19-year-old blueliner has become a fixture in the Columbus lineup since getting promoted from AHL Cleveland, playing in 10 straight games while providing a goal and two helpers, plus six shots on net, six hits, 12 blocked shots, six PIM and a plus/minus rating of zero. Jirieck does have more offensive upside than that, but for now the Jackets are content to let the 2022 sixth overall pick get his feet wet in the NHL.

Dmitri Voronkov - Strong start to career continues Voronkov scored his second goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Capitals.
Impact He was the only Blue Jacket to solve a red-hot Charlie Lindgren, as the big Russian tipped home a Kirill Marchenko shot early in the second period. Voronkov has four points in five games to kick-start his NHL career while adding five shots on net, three hits, four blocked shots, nine PIM and a plus-2 rating, and his ability to provide an imposing net-front presence has earned him a spot on Columbus' second power-play unit.
