Elvis Merzlikins - Starting in Toronto Merzlikins will guard the visiting cage in Toronto on Saturday, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Impact Merzlikins had a tough go of it Thursday, giving up seven goals on 28 shots before being replaced in the third period versus Colorado. Merzlikins is 25-20-5 with a 3.20 GAA and an .891 save percentage across 50 outings in 2024-25. He won his only start versus the Maple Leafs this season, allowing only one goal on 29 shots in 5-1 victory. The Maple Leafs have scored 244 goals in 75 games this season, eighth in the NHL.

Impact Johnson was in the lineup over Damon Severson and Jake Christiansen for this contest after being a healthy scratch for the previous four games. The helper ended Johnson's four-game skid, which occurred during March after another lengthy run in the press box. There's no telling if he'll stick in the lineup the rest of the way, and he's unlikely to help most fantasy managers even if he does. Johnson has six helpers, 22 shots on net, 33 blocked shots, 18 hits and a minus-10 rating across 39 appearances this season.

Impact This was a poor team result, but Voronkov had a silver lining in ending his 10-game point drought. In that span, he logged 21 shots on net, 14 hits and a minus-2 rating. The 24-year-old has maintained a top-six role for much of the season, but his slump came at an inopportune time for fantasy managers. He's up to 43 points, 138 shots on net, 60 hits, 41 blocked shots, 43 PIM and a plus-14 rating through 65 contests in a promising second NHL campaign, though there's still room for growth in his game.

Impact Aston-Reese ended a 57-game goal drought with his second-period tally. He had just eight assists in that span, so while he's been a regular in the Blue Jackets' lineup for much of the season, he's not a player who will help much in fantasy. He's just a point off his career high of 17 from the 2018-19 campaign, having earned five goals, 11 assists, 96 shots on net, 169 hits, 54 blocked shots and a minus-16 rating over 73 appearances in 2024-25.

He's up to six goals, 12 assists, 47 shots on net, 33 hits and a plus-4 rating across 18 appearances while mainly serving in a second-line role since returning from a shoulder injury.

Impact Monahan has three goals and five assists over five contests since returning from a wrist injury, so he hasn't missed a beat on offense. The center is up to 17 goals, 32 assists, 117 shots on net and a plus-16 rating through 46 appearances. He's a safe bet to reach the 50-point mark for the second year in a row and the seventh time in his career, and he should close out 2024-25 in a first-line role.

Daniil Tarasov - Needed in relief Thursday Tarasov turned aside all four shots he faced after replacing Elvis Merzlikins early in the third period of Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Avalanche.
Impact The 26-year-old continues to be used sparingly, but that could be about to change. Tarasov hasn't given up more than three goals in an appearance since Jan. 23, posting a 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage over his last six outings. Meanwhile, Merzlikins has a ghastly 5.11 GAA over his last five starts. With the Blue Jackets' playoff chances hanging by a thread, coach Dean Evason might have little choice but to give Tarasov a bigger workload.

The 30-year-old netminder saw his three-start winning streak snapped, but he was hardly playing at an elite level -- Merzlikins has allowed at least three goals in five straight outings, stumbling to a brutal 5.11 GAA and .843 save percentage during that stretch.
