Impact Ellis has made one start with the Sabres this season -- he allowed two goals on 31 shots in a victory against Detroit on Oct. 22. Buffalo also has Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alex Lyon on the roster, so Ellis' opportunities are few and far between. He has a 9-7-0 record and ranks 15th in goals per game with 3.19.

Returns to practice Monday Ellis (back) returned to practice Monday and should be available moving forward.

Impact Ellis was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against Toronto due to tightness in his back, but he downplayed the severity of the issue Monday. He said that he wasn't feeling 100 percent healthy Saturday, and the team made the decision to simply start Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen rather than having Ellis push through. Head coach Lindy Ruff said after practice that Ellis felt much better and will likely be fully available going forward.
