Sporting regular sweater Tanev (upper body) practiced in a regular jersey Monday, Claire Hanna of TSN reports, indicating he's been cleared for contact.

Impact Tanev may be hard-pressed to immediately return to the lineup versus the Blackhawks on Tuesday, but he certainly seems to be trending in the right direction. In his eight outings this year, the veteran blueliner has notched two assists, eight blocks and six shots. While the Toronto native generates plenty of blocks, he doesn't offer enough physicality or offensive upside to be more than a low-end fantasy target.

Getting second opinion Tanev will seek a second opinion for his upper-body issue, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports Friday.

Impact The news doesn't provide much clarity regarding Tanev's eventual return to action, but fantasy players should probably expect the blueliner to miss at least another week, if not longer. The Leafs should be getting some reinforcements on the blue line in the form of Marshall Rifai (wrist). Still, Tanev's continued absence doesn't bode well for the team's ability to limit opportunities in front of the netminders.

Impact Tanev has started to get in some work with the team but it appears he is still a little ways off from returning. When healthy, the blueliner has offered minimal offensive upside, generating two helpers in eight outings. As such, few fantasy players will be anxiously awaiting his return to action.

Impact Tanev was stretchered off the ice Nov. 1 in Philadelphia in what was believed to be whiplash. The veteran defenseman is eligible to return from injured reserve Saturday against the Bruins, but will likely need to sit this one out. Tanev has two assists in eight games this season.

Impact The Maple Leafs recalled Dakota Mermis from AHL Toronto in a corresponding move. Tanev missed four straight outings due to a concussion before returning to the lineup against Philadelphia on Saturday. However, he suffered another injury in the contest, and he will miss at least the next three games after landing back on the IR list. It's unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup.

Impact In a scary play, Tanev was injured Saturday after a collision with Matvei Michkov, and he had to be stretchered off the ice. It remains to be seen how much time, if any, the 35-year-old will miss. The defenseman has two assists in eight appearances this year.

Impact Tanev was playing in his first game since returning from a concussion. Michkov's hit might not have been intentional, but he did receive two minutes for interference. Should Tanev need to miss some time, Philippe Myers is likely to draw back into the lineup.
