Signs six-year contract
Pesce (lower leg) inked a six-year, $33 million contract with New Jersey on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Impact
Pesce missed the Hurricane's final nine postseason contests after suffering a fractured fibula in Game 2 of the Canes' first-round series with the Islanders. This past season was a low point offensively for the 29-year-old defenseman, as he posted a personal worst 13 points in 70 regular-season contests, a far cry from the 30 he put up the year before. Clearly, the Devils are hoping to rediscover the 2022-23 version of Pesce, though he may be hard-pressed to secure power-play minutes with his new club.

The Hurricanes have their deal with coach Rod Brind'Amour, yet more free-agency challenges loom
The Carolina Hurricanes locked up their most important free agent in coach Rod Brind'Amour less than week after exiting the NHL playoffs

Diagnosed with fractured fibula
Pesce (lower leg) had been dealing with a fractured fibula near his ankle, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Impact
Pesce missed the final nine games of Carolina's post-season run, including the entire series against the Rangers, after suffering the injury in Game 2 of the opening round versus the Islanders. Pesce had three goals, 10 points and a plus-10 rating in 70 regular-season games this year. The 29-year-old blueliner is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason -- if healthy, Pesce should be one of the top names available.

Officially ruled out Thursday
Pesce (lower body) will not be in the lineup against the Rangers in Game 6 on Thursday, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.
Impact
Pesce got onto the ice for the first time Wednesday, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him still being held out for Game 6. Still, it's a step in the right direction for the 29-year-old blueliner, who could be in contention should the series go to Game 7 on Saturday. Considering Pesce has managed a mere two points in his last 19 outings, his potential return is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy players.

Out indefinitely
Pesce (lower body) has yet to resume skating and is out indefinitely as a result, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Thursday.
Impact
Pesce didn't make the trip with the team to New York and could now be in danger of missing the remainder of the best-of-seven series with the Rangers. Without Pesce in the squad, Tony DeAngelo figures to see the biggest uptick in ice time, including minutes with the man advantage. Prior to getting hurt, Pesce was stuck in a 38-game goal drought during which he notched just seven helpers, so fantasy players shouldn't be expecting a ton of offensive output from the defenseman even once cleared to play.

Not traveling to New York
Pesce (lower body) won't travel with the Hurricanes ahead of Game 1 against the Rangers on Sunday, ruling him out for the first two games of the series, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes...
Impact
Pesce missed the final three games of Carolina's opening-round series after suffering a lower-body injury in Game 2 against the Islanders. The 29-year-old blueliner has one assist in two playoff games after tallying three goals and 13 points in 70 regular-season contests. Tony DeAngelo will likely remain on the Hurricanes' second pairing until Pesce can return.

Pesce (lower body) will not return to Monday's game against the Islanders.
Impact
Pesce logged one shot on goal, two PIM and two blocked shots in 8:47 of ice time before suffering an injury Monday. The veteran blueliner tallied an assist with a plus-2 rating in Game 1 on Saturday. The team should have an update on his status before Thursday's Game 3 tilt.

Garners helper in Game 1
Pesce logged an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Islanders in Game 1.
Impact
Pesce sat out two of the Hurricanes' last three regular-season games amid a run of one helper over 17 contests. The 29-year-old got off the schneid with an assist on Martin Necas' empty-netter. This was Pesce's worst scoring year as an NHLer with just 13 points over 70 appearances, but he remains defensively stable and in a top-four role to begin the playoffs.

Preparing for postseason
Pesce (rest) was on the ice for practice ahead of Saturday's playoff matchup with the Islanders, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Impact
Pesce probably is still dealing with a minor injury considering he has sat out two of the Canes' last three contests. The blueliner hasn't scored a goal since mid-January, contributing zero goals and six assists over the last 36 contests. Given his limited offensive upside, Pesce is unlikely to offer much in the way of fantasy value for postseason contests.

Sitting Tuesday
Pesce (rest) will sit out Tuesday's regular-season finale against Columbus, per Walt Ruff.
Impact
Pesce has generally skated in the top four this season, recording three goals and 10 assists to go along with 113 blocked shots through 70 games. Pesce will likely line up with Brett Burns on the No. 1 defensive pairing when the playoffs start.

Back in action
Pesce (undisclosed) will suit up Sunday against Chicago, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Impact
Pesce will return after a brief one-game absence while dealing with a minor injury. After a career-high 30 points last season, the veteran blueliner has been held to 13 points through 69 games this season. He'll slot back into his usual top-four role Sunday.

Out Friday
Pesce (undisclosed) will not suit up Friday against the Blues, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Impact
Pesce appears to be dealing with a minor injury that could be more of a rest day than anything. The 29-year-old has been held to just one assist in his last 16 games, giving him 13 points in 69 games this season. He'll be considered questionable for Sunday's game in Chicago until more information is available.

Two helpers in Thursday's win
Pesce notched two assists while adding five shots on net, one blocked shot, one hit and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Impact
It's his first multi-point performance since Jan. 13, snapping a slump that had seen Pesce manage only one assist over his prior 15 games. The 29-year-old blueliner had reliably delivered at least 25 points in each of the last three seasons, but his offensive contributions have cratered in 2023-24, and he's eked out only three goals and 10 points through 50 contests.

Pockets helper
Pesce notched an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Golden Knights.
Impact
Pesce helped out on an Andrei Svechnikov tally in the second period. The assist snapped Pesce's nine-game point drought, during which he had 18 shots on net, 10 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating. The 29-year-old has just eight points through 44 outings this season after recording 30 points in 2022-23. Pesce has added 70 shots on net, 75 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating. Despite his drop in offense, he has maintained a top-four role for his defensive work.

Back at practice
Pesce (illness) returned to practice Monday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Impact
Pesce looks poised to rejoin the lineup ahead of Tuesday's clash with Dallas after having missed the last two games due to illness. The blueliner is currently mired in a seven-game pointless streak during which he recorded 11 shots, eight blocks and four hits while averaging 20:38 of ice time.

Out Saturday
Pesce (illness) isn't available Saturday versus New Jersey, per Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal.
Impact
Pesce was regarded as a game-time decision, but he didn't join the Hurricanes for the pregame warmups. He has three goals and seven points in 41 outings in 2023-24. With Pesce set to miss his second straight contest, Tony DeAngelo is projected to remain in the lineup.
