Released from PTO Harpur was released from his professional tryout agreement Thursday.

Impact Harpur inked a PTO with the Panthers on Sept. 10, but he was unable to land a spot on the team's Opening Night roster, even as the team deals with multiple injuries. The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the NHL since the 2022-23 campaign, and he'll have to seek out other opportunities ahead of the 2025-26 season.

In camp on PTO Harpur secured a professional tryout agreement with the Panthers, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reports Wednesday.

Impact Harpur last logged an NHL game back in 2022-23 when he was with the Rangers, making 42 regular-season appearances in which he garnered one goal, five helpers and 63 hits while averaging 14:04 of ice time. Securing a regular NHL deal is going to be an uphill battle for Harpur, as he'll need to edge out Uvis Balinskis or Tobias Bjornfot.

Returned to AHL Harpur was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Tuesday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.

Impact Harpur notched one goal and two assists in seven outings with the Rangers' top minor-league affiliate in 2023-24. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the AHL.

Recalled Monday Harpur was recalled by the Rangers on Monday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.

Impact Harpur was waived by the Rangers in late September and assigned to AHL Hartford, but he'll rejoin the NHL club as part of a slew of procedural moves Monday. It wouldn't be surprising to see him sent back down ahead of Opening Night against the Penguins on Wednesday, but he could be back in the NHL at some point this year.

Put on waivers Harpur was placed on waivers Friday, according to PuckPedia.

Impact Harpur had a goal and six points in 42 regular-season games with the Rangers in 2022-23, but he didn't play at all in the NHL last season. That's in part due to him undergoing pectoral surgery in November, which brought an end to his 2023-24 campaign after recording a goal and three points across seven contests with AHL Hartford. Harpur might get an opportunity to play with the Rangers this campaign, but it seems he will first have to spend more time in the minors.

Season officially over Harpur will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season after undergoing pectoral surgery, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports Monday.

Impact While Harpur had yet to be called up to the NHL by the Rangers this season, he was one of the more experienced blue-line options for the club having played in 198 NHL games. The 2013 fourth-round pick wasn't exactly an offensive dynamo considering he has just 21 NHL points but his absence leaves the club with a relatively young reserve defensive corps should any of the NHL players suffer an injury. Harpur has one more year on his current contract and will no doubt be focused on making the team coming out of camp in 2024-25.

Impact Harpur has been a staple on New York's third pairing with Ryan Lindgren (upper body) having missed 16 of the last 17 games. If Lindgren can get healthy down the stretch, Harpur's the likeliest candidate to be relegated to the press box, but New York has little reason to rush Lindgren back over the final five regular season games, as the Rangers have already secured a playoff spot. Harpur has six points in 40 appearances for the Blueshirts.

Impact Harpur customarily plays fewer than 15 minutes per game, but he's been pressed into a much larger role with the cap-strapped Rangers down to five defensemen over the last two games; he played a whopping 28:04 in Sunday's win over the Kings. While Harpur's TOI should remain elevated until the Rangers get Ryan Lindgren (upper body) or K'Andre Miller (suspension) back, his stay-at-home style will likely leave Harpur with limited fantasy utility in most formats.
