Anthony Stolarz - NHL News & Rumors

Sharp in first win of season Stolarz stopped 26 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Islanders.

Impact The veteran netminder took a shutout into the third period, only for Emil Heineman to spoil it with a shortie, but it was still an impressive start to the campaign for Stolarz. He's set to handle backup duties behind new No. 1 Sergei Bobrovsky, but the former Panther's decline last season could open the door for Stolarz to see more work than expected if its continues, provided he can stay healthy enough to take advantage.

Expected to start Wednesday Stolarz is set to start at home against the Islanders on Wednesday, per Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun.

Impact Stolarz had a 10-10-3 record, 3.28 GAA and .893 save percentage in 26 regular-season appearances with the Maple Leafs in 2025-26. Toronto is playing in the second half of a back-to-back after suffering a 3-2 loss to Montreal on Tuesday. Sergei Bobrovsky got the assignment for that game, turning aside 21 of 24 shots in the loss. Stolarz is Toronto's No. 2 option, but he's capable of taking a bigger share of the workload than your typical understudy, provided he stays healthy.

Picks up road win Wednesday Stolarz stopped 19 of 21 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 preseason win over the Senators.

Impact Stolarz was backstopping a younger group of Maple Leafs, but he did his job well. With the preseason slate now done, Stolarz is poised to handle backup duties behind Sergei Bobrovsky. Stolarz battled upper-body and groin injuries in 2025-26 while also playing behind an underwhelming team, but his numbers should bounce back with a lighter workload expected in 2026-27.

Impact Stolarz will get a tune-up as the Maple Leafs wrap up their preseason slate Wednesday. The 32-year-old is the expected backup to Sergei Bobrovsky for 2026-27, a position that should afford Stolarz the chance to play 25-30 games to keep Bobrovsky relatively fresh throughout the year.

Impact Stolarz being deemed the starting goalie by Chayka shouldn't come as a huge surprise after the club traded away Joseph Woll in mid-June. The 32-year-old Stolarz was limited to just 26 regular-season appearances due to injuries this year, posting a 10-10-3 record and 3.28 GAA. That injury history should be a red flag for fantasy managers, especially considering he has only reached the 30-game mark once in his NHL career.

Suffered groin injury Stolarz suffered a groin strain when he was hurt April 8 versus Washington, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.

Impact Stolarz missed the final four games of the season with the injury. He said Thursday that he will hit the rehab process hard once he is able to work out and that no surgery is necessary. Stolarz struggled all season, posting a 10-10-3 record with a 3.28 GAA and an .893 save percentage across 26 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, a far cry from 2024-25, when he led the NHL with a .926 save percentage and was third in GAA at 2.14. Stolarz should be in fine form at the start of training camp in September, barring any major setbacks.

Out for remainder of season Stolarz (lower body) will miss the rest of the 2025-26 regular season, David Alter of The Hockey News reports Saturday.

Impact Stolarz sustained the injury in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to Washington. He will conclude the campaign with a 10-10-3 record, a 3.28 GAA and an .893 save percentage across 26 appearances. Joseph Woll will probably see the bulk of the playing time in Toronto's final three outings, but Artur Akhtyamov could get another start before the end of the season.
