Placed on injured reserve Newhook (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site.
Impact Newhook underwent surgery to repair a fractured ankle Friday that carries a return timetable of approximately four months, so his move to injured reserve isn't surprising. Prior to sustaining his injury, he had recorded six goals, six assists, 26 hits, eight PIM and five blocked shots while averaging 14:38 of ice time over 17 appearances.

Undergoes surgery Friday Newhook had surgery to repair a fractured ankle Friday and will be sidelined for four months.
Impact Based on his timeline, Newhook figures to be out of action until at least mid-March. It's a huge blow for the 24-year-old center, who was putting together a solid season with 12 points in 17 games -- numbers that could have seen him top the 40-point threshold for the first time in his NHL career. Fantasy managers can likely expect Newhook to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days.

Sustains apparent lower-body injury Newhook sustained a lower-body injury and won't return to Thursday's game versus the Stars.
Impact The Canadiens didn't provide any additional details, but Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports Newhook's right leg bent awkwardly on the play that led to his exit from the game. Given the nature of the injury, this may be a case of how long he's out rather than hoping he's just day-to-day. He'll be evaluated further ahead of Saturday's game versus the Bruins.

Scores, assists in win Newhook scored a goal and delivered an assist in Saturday's 6-2 win over Utah. He also tallied two PIM, five shots on goal, two hits and a plus-3 rating.
Impact Newhook gave the Canadiens a 3-2 lead with a snap shot at the 13:13 mark of the second period, and he'd later assist Nick Suzuki to give Montreal a 5-2 edge in the final frame. Newhook continues to produce at a steady rate for Montreal and has cracked the scoresheet in seven of the team's last nine games, tallying 10 points (five goals, five assists), 16 shots, 17 hits, four blocked shots and a plus-5 rating over that stretch.

Scores game-winner in OT Newhook scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Senators.
Impact Newhook found the twine for the third time over his last four games, with four tallies over that stretch, but this goal Saturday was perhaps his most important of the season since it gave Montreal the victory after regulation. Newhook has five goals and nine total points across 12 games this season. There might be some regression in his scoring numbers in the coming weeks, though, as he's currently sporting an unsustainable 33.3 percent shooting percentage. In contrast, he's never reached the 20 percent mark in that regard in his previous four seasons in the league.
