Gets early hook Friday Schmid gave up three goals on seven shots before being replaced by Vitek Vanecek midway through the first period Friday's 5-4 loss to the Sabres.

Impact The netminder wasn't at fault for any of the tallies, but Devils coach Lindy Ruff made a quick switch in an effort to wake his team up. Schmid avoided taking the loss at least, as Vanecek allowed the game-winning goal. Schmid sports a 3-1-2 record with a .916 save percentage in eight appearances since being called back up from AHL Utica in late February.

While Vitek Vanecek will see the bulk of the workload down the stretch, Schmid should get a few opportunities with Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) sidelined. Impact Schmid had no chance on the first goal, which went in off Devils defenseman John Marino's leg with just 10 seconds left in the opening frame. The second goal came midway through the third period of Dylan Strome's stick in front of the net. Schmid then bricked up the net during the shootout. He is now 7-4-1 with a sparkling 1.99 GAA and .925 save percentage and has allowed just three goals on 62 shots over his last three appearances.
