Impact Howard had missed a few practice sessions as he recovered from an injury to his knee, but he now seems to be back in playing shape. He's on track to be Houston's starting right tackle come Week 1 at Indianapolis.

Slated to miss Friday Howard is slated to miss out on Friday's preseason matchup against Pittsburgh on Friday with a minor knee injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Howard will miss Friday along a slew of Texans players, which should open up an opportunity for offensive lineman Cameron Erving as right tackle Charlie Heck will also be out. Howard is primed to be a starter on the Texans' offensive line this season, so hopefully his knee problem remains minor in the coming weeks.

Questionable for Friday Howard sustained an undisclosed injury during Tuesday's practice and sat out practice the following day, Cole Thompson of Texans Wire reports.

Impact Howard left the practice early, headed to the blue medical tent and did not return to the field. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Wednesday that Howard "is good" but did not elaborate on the right tackle's status for Friday's preseason tilt against the Steelers.

Clears cap space with restructure Howard (knee) restructured his contract with the Texans on Friday to clear $10.3 million in salary cap space, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Howard's restructure involves converting the majority of his $14 million base salary into a $12.9 million signing bonus. The starting right tackle is recovering from knee surgery to address patellar tendon issues, which was undergone back in November. It's not yet clear whether he'll be ready for training camp.
