INJURIES

Catches 16 passes in 2021 Kroft caught 16 of 25 targets for 173 yards and a touchdown over nine appearances in 2021.
Impact Kroft missed time due to a back injury and lung laceration, but he split top tight end duties with Ryan Griffin when healthy and actually ended up finishing with the second-highest receiving yardage total of his seven-year NFL career. Tight end is one of many positions the Jets will likely look to upgrade in the offseason, but it's unclear if bringing back Kroft -- who's an unrestricted free agent -- is part of the team's plan at the position.

Parsons, Mixon latest stars added to COVID-19 list

Dallas star rookie linebacker Micah Parsons and Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon were the latest big-name players added to the COVID-19 reserve list
JANUARY 5, 2022 • Associated Press
Activated from COVID list The Jets activated Kroft (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
Impact Kroft is in line to suit up Sunday against the Bills and should reclaim his role as the Jets' top tight end after Kenny Yeboah and Daniel Brown (hip) filled in for him in the Week 17 loss to the Buccaneers. Through his eight appearances on the season, Kroft has compiled a 15-168-1 receiving line on 22 targets.

Remains on COVID list Kroft remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Until Kroft is able clear the NFL's COVID protocols, Kenny Yeboah and Daniel Brown are the Jets' available tight end options, with neither profiling as a high-percentage fantasy option.

Lands on COVID list The Jets placed Kroft on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday after he tested positive for the virus.
Impact The Jets tight-ends corps is currently taxed due to injuries and COVID-19 list additions, so look for the team to makes some moves in advance of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. For now, Kroft will remain in quarantine until he clears the NFL's COVID protocols.

Second-leading receiver in win Kroft caught three of five targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jaguars.
Impact With fellow tight end Ryan Griffin (knee) among the multitude of inured Jets pass-catchers, Kroft finished second behind Braxton Berrios in targets, catches and receiving yards. Kroft's among the top targets left for quarterback Zach Wilson by default heading into the team's Week 17 game against the Buccaneers, but the veteran tight end hasn't caught more than three passes in a game this season.

Stepping into No. 1 role at TE Kroft will serve as the Jets' starting tight end Sunday against the Jaguars after Ryan Griffin (knee) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, Brian Costello of the New...
Impact Griffin moved to the reserve/COVID-19 list three days later, but regardless, he won't play again this season, paving the way for Kroft to operate as the Jets' clear top option at the position. Kroft returned from a five-game absence due to a lacerated lung and played 61 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps in the Week 15 loss to the Dolphins, finishing with two receptions for 35 yards on two targets. He could see his snap share and target count climb slightly with Griffin out of the mix, but likely not enough to make Kroft an appealing option in season-long leagues or DFS.

Two catches in return Kroft (lung) caught both of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Dolphins.
Impact Kroft returned to the field for the first time since suffering a lacerated lung in Week 9 against the Colts. His stat line was almost identical to that of fellow tight end Ryan Griffin, who caught both of his targets for 39 yards. Unfortunately for the Jets, the tight ends finished second and third on the team in receiving yards behind Jamison Crowder's 40. Kroft and Griffin should both see the field frequently in Week 16 against the Jaguars.

Jets activate leading rusher Carter, 3 others from IR

The banged-up New York Jets got their leading rusher and a key tight end back for their game Sunday against the Miami Dolphins
DECEMBER 18, 2021 • Associated Press
Returns off IR Kroft (lung) was activated off injured reserve Saturday.
Impact The veteran tight end missed the last five weeks after suffering a lacerated lung in the Week 9 loss to the Colts. Kroft had essentially been operating as the team's No. 2 tight end prior to the injury and he's expected to resume that role alongside nominal starter Ryan Griffin.

Designated to return from IR Kroft (chest) has been designated to return from IR.
Impact The tight end sustained a chest injury during Week 9 action, but it looks as though he could be activated for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Prior to suffering his injury, Kroft had logged 10 catches (on 15 yards) for 104 yards and a touchdown in six games, a rate of production that restricts his fantasy utility to deeper formats.

Expected back Week 15 Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he expects Kroft (lung) to return from injured reserve in advance of Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports...
Impact New York has yet to designate Kroft for return from IR since he was deactivated Nov. 9, so getting back on the practice field at some point Wednesday through Friday will be the first order of business for the 29-year-old if he hopes to suit up this weekend. If Kroft proves to New York's coaching and training staff that he's made a full recovery from his lung laceration, he'll likely be on the short end of a timeshare at tight end with Ryan Griffin.
