Impact Unless Pope is able to make exceedingly quick progress and fully clear the league's five-step concussion protocol, including gaining full clearance from an independent neurologist, he won't be eligible to suit up Sunday. If Pope indeed misses time, it could provide Joshua Kelley with increased opportunities alongside presumed starter Justin Jackson.

Impact Pope missed his second consecutive practice Thursday as he continues to reside in the league's concussion protocol. Despite spending time between the practice squad and 53-man roster, Pope racked up 15 touches for 95 scrimmage yards in last week's loss to Denver. Pope has just one more practice to take part in this week, so if he's out for Sunday's game against Las Vegas, the Charger backfield will be handled by Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelly.

Impact Pope has shuttled between the Chargers' practice squad and active roster this season, but his first significant action occurred this past Sunday at Denver, when he totaled 15 touches for 95 yards from scrimmage. Unfortunately for Pope, he entered the concussion protocol and must be in the early stages due to his lack of activity in the first practice of Week 9 prep. He'll have two more days to take part, but if he's sidelined Sunday against the Raiders, L.A.'s backfield will be powered by Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley.

In concussion protocol Coach Anthony Lynn revealed Wednesday that Pope is in the concussion protocol, Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register reports.

Impact Pope produced 95 scrimmage yards on 15 touches in last week's loss to Denver, but he apparently suffered a concussion in that contest. If the running back is unable to clear concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley will go back to splitting reps in the Chargers' backfield.

Emerges as key piece in loss Pope carried the ball 10 times for 67 yards and also recorded five receptions on seven targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Broncos.

Impact All but eight of Pope's 67 rushing yards came in the second half as the Chargers attempted to sit on a double-digit first-half lead only to watch the game fall out of their grasp in the closing seconds. It's interesting to note Pope's production essentially came at the expense of Joshua Kelley who hardly played in the later stages of Sunday's contest, although Justin Jackson (41 snaps, 142 total yards) was still around as an effective multi-tooled option. The playing time splits seem to reflect Pope gaining a bit of an upper hand on the "change-of-pace" role as Kelley played just 21 snaps compared to Pope's 25, but coach Anthony Lynn has seemingly always focused on feeding "the hot hand." Regardless, this is a backfield situation to monitor, especially with Austin Ekeler (hamstring) still not expected back anytime soon.

Impact Manzano suggests this might not be a good omen for Justin Jackson's status considering he's listed as questionable for Sunday's contest with a knee injury, but Jackson did end up fully practicing Friday so it's possible this is simply a depth move or something to help improve special teams. In any case, we'll know more regarding Jackson's status closer to the 4:25 ET kickoff.
