Will play in second preseason game Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday that McBride (back) will play in Sunday's preseason game against the Ravens, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site report...
Impact McBride sat out the preseason opener due to lingering back soreness, but he appears ready for his first NFL game action. The rookie second-round pick was a standout receiver at Colorado State but will presumably be the No. 3 tight end on the Cardinals depth chart if Zach Ertz (calf) and Maxx Williams (knee) are healthy Week 1.

Likely sitting for preseason opener McBride (back) may not be able to play during Friday's preseason game against the Bengals, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Impact The 6-foot-3, 249-pound tight end has been dealing with some back soreness through the August portion of training camp, but the team hasn't expressed too much concern about the issue. McBride was the first tight end selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, but with Zach Ertz the presumed starter, the 22-year-old could find himself third on Arizona's depth chart if Maxx Williams (knee) is cleared to play by Week 1. McBride will likely partake in preseason action at some point, but it looks like he'll watch from the sidelines on Friday.

Playing it safe with back issue Arizona will continue to have McBride sit out of practice for a couple more days while he deals with back soreness ahead of the team's first preseason game Friday night, Josh Weinf...
Impact The Cardinals' reluctance to rush McBride back to practice is understandable after the team selected him in the second round of this year's draft. Nevertheless, coach Kliff Kingsbury has been optimistic that the tight end will be available for the team's first preseason matchup against Cincinnati. McBride likely will slot in as Arizona's No. 3 tight end behind Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams, and he should see plenty of run in the exhibition opener if he's available, according to Weinfuss.

Dealing with back soreness McBride has missed a couple practices with a sore back, but coach Kliff Kingsbury is still hopeful to have the rookie available next Friday (Aug. 12) for the Cardinals' preseason o...
Impact McBride could see quite a bit of run this preseason, as he's unlikely to have a huge role once the games count, barring an injury to veteran tight end Zach Ertz. The Cardinals also have Maxx Williams, who is coming back from an ACL injury and was activated from the PUP list Thursday morning. Williams isn't likely to catch many passes, but his size and blocking advantage could get him on the field over McBride as the second tight end. It thus looks like an uphill battle to fantasy relevance for McBride, even as a second-round pick coming off a 1,000-yard season at Colorado State.

First tight end off the board The Cardinals selected McBride in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 55th overall.
Impact The Colorado State product becomes the first tight end off the board in this class, and deservedly so. McBride led FBS in targets (134), receptions (90), and yards (1,121) in 2021. However, only one of those 90 catches went for a touchdown, though that speaks more to the general ineffectiveness of the offense he played in. McBride has big hands (10.13 inches) and is crafty at shielding defenders and securing the ball. He doesn't have the athleticism to be much of a threat after the catch, but he could develop into a red-zone threat eventually. With Zach Ertz signed to a new deal, it may take some time for McBride to be an impact player.
