Receives second-round tender The Broncos extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent Patrick (foot) on Tuesday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Impact Denver's decision likely will stop other organizations from extending Patrick an offer sheet, but the wide receiver fared well in his third pro season in 2020, turning 79 targets into 51 catches for 742 yards and six touchdowns. Furthermore, 23 of his 90 career receptions have gone for 20-plus yards, so he does boast field-stretching ability, despite mostly uneven quarterback play through three campaigns.

Impact The move would help ensure Patrick remains a Bronco in 2021, as Denver would have the opportunity to match any offer the receiver attracts on the open market. Furthermore, any bargaining team would have to surrender a second-round draft pick to the Broncos in order to acquire Patrick's services. During his third pro season in 2020, Patrick composed three separate 100-yard receiving performances. His six receiving touchdowns, meanwhile, were twice as many as any other player on the team. Courtland Sutton's return from a torn ACL likely would dampen Patrick's target share. Then again, Patrick may benefit from more single-coverage situations if he's operating opposite Sutton and promising sophomore wideout Jerry Jeudy.

Impact Though Paton didn't go into details on the upcoming transaction, Renck expects Patrick to draw a second-round tender. With Courtland Sutton (knee) unavailable Weeks 3 through 17 of last season, Patrick stepped into a prime role in the Broncos' offense, nearly quadrupling his previous career high with 15 starts. The 27-year-old's six receiving scores led the team, while his 742 receiving yards were surpassed by only Jerry Jeudy. Patrick was forced to sit out Denver's season finale against Las Vegas because of a foot sprain, but he's expected to be recuperated in time for Broncos OTAs this spring. That is, so long as another team doesn't bite on the tender and extract Patrick from the team's receiving corps.

Impact Patrick was one of the bright spots in what was a disappointing season in Denver. He'll likely be tendered a contract in restricted free agency this offseason, but Patrick could be headed for a downturn in production in 2021.
