Won't play Sunday Coleman (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Saints, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
Impact Coleman landed in the concussion protocol following last week's loss to the Eagles, and he'll be sidelined for at least one game. The 28-year-old has been operating as the No. 1 tailback with Michael Carter (ankle) on injured reserve, but the Jets will now have to go further down the depth chart. Ty Johnson, who usually works as the passing-down back, should have an increased role versus New Orleans, and Austin Walter also figures to be involved in the offensive game plan.

Jets' Wilson feeling more comfortable in 'second year'

Zach Wilson is still a rookie but the New York Jets quarterback feels as though he’s already in his second NFL season
DECEMBER 9, 2021 • Associated Press
No practice activity Thursday Coleman (concussion) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Coleman was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol at some point after the Jets' Week 13 loss to the Eagles, even though he wasn't forced to exit that contest early due to an injury. In any case, Coleman's inability to practice even in a limited capacity at this stage of the week isn't a promising sign with regard to his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Saints. The Jets will see if Coleman can take a step forward in terms of activity at Friday's practice before giving him a designation heading into the weekend.

Jets rookie WR Moore has quad injury, uncertain for Saints

New York Jets rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore is dealing with a quadriceps injury that could sideline him for the game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday
DECEMBER 8, 2021 • Associated Press
Dealing with concussion Coleman entered the NFL's concussion protocol Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact As a result, Coleman won't practice Wednesday, which leaves Ty Johnson, Austin Walter and La'Mical Perine as the Jets' current healthy backfield options as Sunday's game against the Saints approaches. Coleman led the New York backfield in touches in the Week 13 loss to the Eagles, finishing with 11 carries for 58 yards and three receptions for 19 yards.
DECEMBER 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leads backfield again Coleman carried the ball 11 times for 58 yards in Sunday's 33-18 loss to the Eagles. He added three receptions for 19 yards.
Impact Coleman was limited by game script, as the team attempted only 17 rushes on the day. Zach Wilson was the only other Jets' player to record multiple carries, leaving Coleman as the clear primary back once again. Despite the limited volume, he picked up chunk gains of 17 and 15 yards to account for the majority of his production. Coleman figures to have at least one more contest in the top role, as Michael Carter (ankle) is not eligible to return from injured reserve until Week 15.

Gets 18 touches in Houston Coleman rushed 16 times for 67 yards and caught two of three targets for three yards in Sunday's 21-14 win over Houston.
Impact Coleman led the Jets' backfield in carries and rushing yards, though Ty Johnson and practice squad elevation Austin Walter combined for 80 rushing yards on 15 carries, including a two-yard Walter touchdown run late in the first half. Coleman performed decently as the leading option in a crowded backfield with Michael Carter (ankle) on IR, and he should maintain that role in Week 13 against the Eagles.

Impact Carter will be sidelined for at least three games after being deactivated, though his estimated recovery timeline bodes well for his chances of being ready to play when first eligible Week 15 at Miami. In any case, his absence for the next three games should create more opportunities for Johnson and Coleman, with the former expected to handle a more heightened change-of-pace role while the latter likely settles in as the Jets' preferred option on early downs. If that's the case, Coleman might end up getting more carries of the two, but the Jets' tendency to play from behind in games could call for more pass-heavy game scripts that are more favorable for Johnson.

Carter injury presents opportunity Coleman rushed five times for 16 yards and caught his lone target for two yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins.
Impact Coleman posted a forgettable stat line, but it's noteworthy that Ty Johnson only got one rushing attempt to Coleman's five, because starter Michael Carter exited the game with an ankle injury. If Carter's forced to miss additional time, Coleman would likely take over as the primary early down running back for the Jets for an appetizing Week 12 matchup with the Texans.
NOVEMBER 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Six touches in return Coleman (hamstring) rushed four times for 29 yards and caught two of three targets for four yards in Sunday's 45-17 loss to Buffalo.
Impact Despite ripping off a 15-yard run -- the Jets' longest of the game -- on his first touch back following a four-game absence, Coleman finished third among New York's running backs with six touches, trailing Michael Carter (20) and Ty Johnson (seven). Coleman and Johnson should continue to share the work left over behind Carter in Week 11 against the Dolphins and beyond, but Johnson's superior pass-catching ability gives him greater upside than Coleman.
NOVEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back from four-week absence Coleman (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Impact Coleman had been sidelined for the past four weeks with the hamstring injury, missing three contests in total following the open date in the Jets' schedule Week 6. Though he was listed atop the depth chart to begin the season, Coleman hasn't played more than 25 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps in any of his four appearances before missing time with the injury. Coleman will likely have to settle for limited work behind Michael Carter and Ty Johnson now that he's healthy again.

Jets' suddenly porous defense aims to tighten up in a hurry

NOVEMBER 12, 2021 • Associated Press
Questionable but likely to play Coleman (hamstring) is listed as questionable but expected to play Sunday against the Bills, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Coleman was a full participant in practice Friday, so it looks like he's finally over the hamstring injury that's kept him sidelined since Week 5. He'll likely work in a rotational role with Michael Carter and Ty Johnson, though Carter's expected to see the majority of snaps between the three running backs.

Should play Sunday Coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Coleman (hamstring) "looks good" to play Sunday versus Buffalo.
Impact The veteran tailback hasn't seen the field since Week 5 due to the hamstring injury, but it appears he'll be available for this weekend's divisional matchup. Rookie Michael Carter has taken control of the Jets' backfield work while Ty Johnson has worked in a complementary role, so Coleman is likely looking at a modest workload in his return.
