Tears ACL Tonyan (knee) was diagnosed with an ACL tear on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact The tight end went down grabbing his left knee after a long reception in the third quarter of Thursday's 24-21 win over the Cardinals. It didn't look good at the time, and agent Jack Bechta has since confirmed that his client will miss the rest of the season. Bechta did provide one possible silver lining, noting that Tonyan suffered an isolated tear with no lateral damage. It's still a season-ending injury, but that could help Tonyan's recovery/rehab process next offseason. Meanwhile, the Packers are left with Marcedes Lewis, Josiah Deguara, Dominique Dafney and Tyler Davis at tight end.

Impact Tonyan made a long catch late in the third quarter but was taken down awkwardly on the play. He managed to leave the field under his own power but ultimately went to the locker room after being briefly evaluated on the sideline, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Prior to his exit, Tonyan had three receptions for 49 yards.

Impact Tonyan had largely disappeared from the box score for a month straight, catching just six receptions for 32 yards on 13 targets in the prior four games, so his reemergence against Washington was encouraging to see. Tonyan will likely remain a low-volume target like he was in 2020, but a game like this is a reminder that he doesn't necessarily need much target volume to be useful as long as his yards per target and touchdowns per target approach his 2020 levels. The Packers could find themselves in a shootout in their Week 8 game against Arizona on Thursday, and if so that might be a viable setting for Tonyan to stay involved two weeks in a row.
