Headed to the Steel City Pittsburgh signed Tonyan to a one-year contract Thursday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Impact Coming off the heels of a season in which he suited up for 17 games with Kansas City, Tonyan is now joining his fifth different team in as many years. Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington are returning at tight end for the Steelers, but they released veteran Jonnu Smith back in March, so there's room for Tonyan to potentially snag a spot on the 53-man roster for 2026.

Not much action in 2025 Tonyan finished the 2025 regular season with one reception for one yard in 17 games.
Impact Tonyan signed with the Chiefs' active roster in late August after previously signing to their practice squad. The 31-year-old spent the majority of the season as the No.3 tight end behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray. Tonyan is set to hit free agency, where he'll likely compete for a depth role once again.

Distant third in TE snaps in Week 14 Tonyan went without a target while playing four of the Chiefs' 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Texans.
Impact As has been a recurring trend all season, Tonyan ranked a distant third in snaps among Chiefs tight ends, with Travis Kelce (91 percent snap share) and Noah Gray (45 percent) comfortably outpacing him. Tonyan has suited up for all 13 of the Chiefs' games this season but has been limited to just one catch for one yard on one target across 126 snaps on offense.

Impact Tonyan first signed with KC in mid-March, and he was released on cutdown day Tuesday before joining the team's practice squad one day later. The veteran tight end has now been made a part of the active roster, where he's set to serve as depth behind Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Jared Wiley. Tonyan has plenty of experience to bring to the table, having seven seasons of NFL action on his resume.
AUGUST 29, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Joins practice squad in KC Tonyan was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad Wednesday.
Impact Tonyan was released by the team Tuesday, but he ultimately decided to stick around Kansas City as a member of the practice squad. The tight end has played in 90 regular-season contests in his NFL career, so he'll provide the Chiefs with a rather experienced depth option in 2025.

Impact Tonyan signed with the Chiefs in March and was unable to do enough during the preseason to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
